I'm not. You build it its yours I don't replicate for profit without permission. And for the last time nobody told you what you CANT do. We told you what could PISS SOME OTHERS OFF. I.E. a friendly warning. You took it the wrong way and continue to do so. GET OVER IT AND MOVE ON!
Some of the ships already offered are not completely accurate and as such some folks would purchase the more accurate version. We should have an open market! I don't think taking someone else's work and using it to make copies for sale is a good thing though... not good at all.(Not saying you are doing that.. just stating it)
don't take it (too) personal, we're a hobby full of tinkerers and madmen. You really can't do anything 'secret' in the end - its pretty good bet that the first time someone buys one they'll take it apart. It actually makes sense - we have to know how to repair this stuff and determine if it will hold up to combat usage - we're kind of hard on things sometimes... But i can understand not wanting to have the design torn apart and posted before you even get a chance to hit market.
Thanks Nick! Given the harsh words and insults I’ve received for asking a simple rules question, on something that is part of a long lead time project (the Surcouf)... It would be very fun for me to build it enclosed in a resin box with a whole bunch of unnecessary parts inside so that when some madman tinkerer tries to cut it open and see how to copy it, they will have some serious Rue Goldberg action to unravel. Bawhahahaha!
Hmmmmm If this is marketing.... I believe it would be hard to sell something that will ultimately be submerged and require maintenance and no way for the Captain to do their own repair. I doubt any of the current group will be willing to spend money on items that require a service contract or can only be repaired at the 'factory'.
This might help... we have a muzzle velocity test in Treaty, it might be a good starting point for you. "Gun muzzle velocity will be limited so that a BB shall not penetrate 4 out of 5 times through a 2" thickness of blue DOW extruded polystyrene foam held at a distance of 1 foot from the end of the barrel. "
"Gun muzzle velocity will be limited so that a BB shall not penetrate 4 out of 5 times through a 2" thickness of blue DOW extruded polystyrene foam held at a distance of 1 foot from the end of the barrel. " That's pretty powerful, I don't think any of my guns penetrate more than one inch.
You would be surprised, I heard one of the fast gun cannons with the extra tube at the top, behind the O-ring go through 3 inches.
For those who call me a typist because I won’t drop everything and teach you all how to build a mechanical cannon... keep this in mind... Dori and I have 6 kids. I have a Day Job. I get home from work, then go in the shop until midnight maybe 1:00 am. I crawl into bed exhausted and wake up at 6:00 am to do it all over again. FYI people... combat models are not a mainstream product for us. I got pulled into this forum after six members here bought my Prinz Eugen and Mike posted a review of it. We are very busy with previously scheduled and heavily invested projects that are much closer to generation of ROI. I have already built a kinetic energy gun. You cannot see it because I have made it invisible. Seriously make it and bring it out. I would love to see it. It does have to fit in a model,be reliable, shoot at 250 to 300 fps, have a cyclic rate comparable to existing cannons and be able to be water resistant. It is all for fun.
Do you even know what you are talking about? My guy makes great guns! I dare you to do better. CherriooooOooOOoooOoo
No one told you not to build ships others have already built. We said that if you want to help the hobby out, and for you to make money at it, you should make a hull that no one else offers. or you will not get many sales, quite a difference.
You are too new to be considered a typist, but I'm sure as a person with your experience level you understand that key strokes only go so far. It is incredibly common to have new people come in and say 'you are all doing this wrong, if I built a boat it would destroy everyone!' Granted most don't have your experience My typist comments at least were directed towards those that were 'weighing in' on IRC rules processes, where the total number of rules meetings (lifetime) attended by respondents on the first 2.5ish pages of posts is 1-2. Carl (the geek) and Jeff (daisycutter) are on the complete other side of the spectrum (tippity top of fast gun food chain), so I recommend weighing their encouragement to develop much heavier than the initial comments saying 'everything innovative in the IRC gets banned!' because in my opinion that view is really baseless. Yes a limit could be established, but a lot of things have to happen before we get there, and the bracket of 250-300fps has been provided about 5-10 times thus far, so you should have your answer
" You would be surprised, I heard one of the fast gun cannons with the extra tube at the top, behind the O-ring go through 3 inches. " I am not surprised and I know some that have the high flow guns, but also I am not interested in hurting other people and so as long as I can penetrate balsa that is all I need. I was just surprised that treat had such a high limit.
I have no experience in model warship combat. I like making models. Have been doing so for 40 years. This whole string started with my pondering the possibility of building a working Surcouf since I saw it on the Irwcc valid ship list. I asked if anyone had ever made one and was sent some pics of a Bob Pottle or Ralph Coles hull that was so horrible on details that I would not have even recognized it as Surcouf (I like details). The commentary on the setup was that it was impossible to make functional in 1/144 scale because of size and a co2 bottle takes up the whole interior. For me a challenge. I like a challenge. I know my gun works. I know I can make it fit. I know that the size of the Surcouf limits its muzzle velocity but my math says v = √( 2 × KE / m ) Where KE transfer to the particles (BB’s) is doable. Generating the KE is really simple but accelerating the particles inside the limited space limits the time of energy transfer. The real advantage I have in building the Surcouf is that I am designing and creating molds for my purpose. I can mold in the active ballast tanks saving space for the rest of the gear. I’m really not a big bragging type of person. I just love models and think this project has potential. I wish I could have just worked the thing behind the scenes without a whole bunch of comments from the peanut gallery. I’m sorry if I ruffled any feathers along the way.
Humility is a virtue dude. We've ALL been trying to be helpful. You prefer to call it insulting. As if you weren't being obstinate yourself. Haha. Questions were answered. You apperantly did not like the answers. I can't help that. Lol. If you want to be successful in this small niche market. I.E. combat warships, y poo u need to understand most of us are old, cranky, cantankerous modelers. And like MOST cranky old men we need to be approached in a certain way. That's all we were getting at and you took it out of that context. Hopefully you can get over it lol.
How is that not an insult? And NO on an answer.... the range from 250-300 FPS has a 20% Dv. I can build this to EXACTLY the speed I design it for. So use 250 and I’m possibly 20% under powered.... use 300 and I’m possibly 20% illegal and the whole gun is scrap. Fortunately the dimensional math on the Surcouf gives it a gun shooting 192 FPS so will work for that. Would be great for the number to be accurately established so can build max cannon for bigger ships. But I’ve too much other stuff to do right now anyway.
Build it to 300.0000000000000 fps and you will be legal. Skin that smoke wagon. I doubt you can. Also a concept is not reality.
Wat dus skin dat smok wagon mean Daisy? Is it some kinda Texas thing? If he can build an idiot proof truly reliable gun, hurrah! Randy Stepanovich. MWC nats 2001 2002 2003 2004 2005 2006 2007 etc..etc IRCWCC nats 20016 2018 56 regional events Investigated by MWC bod for saying meow in a forum
