So I was wonderin' whether or not a Renown class battlecruiser could be okay for a first ship. Anyhow, are there any other battleships or battlecruisers that aren't too difficult to build a still beginner friendly?

    Hey, welcome aboard!
HMS Renown isn't a ship that I'd recommend for someone new to the hobby. She's quite large and could be overwhelming for a first ship. Try looking into the Invincible class they're smaller, have a better gun arraignment, and are regarded as a good starter ship.

Are there any good-looking, well armed Allied (preferably British) cruisers that I could build?

'Good looking' is subjective. lol I like the looks of the Gangut class, but I don't find many people that agree with me.;)
Are you looking for fastgun or biggun ships?

New York is IRCWCC country, so fastgun would be your best bet on getting in on the fun.

Do you know any clubs around me? Preferably within a 4 hour drive. Thanks!

Us fastgunners are all one club (except for SCRAP out in CA) the International Radio Control Warship Combat Club. There are several battlers in NY. Barry is somewhere in the NYC area, @thegeek is in Coxsackie and has battles at his pond. The Arena brothers are somewhere in NY as well (not sure where though). You're in a fairly good spot to get started in the hobby. Try to get hooked up with somebody near by and let them help you get going.

By the way, I looked up the Gangut class. It's not what I would call gorgeous looking, but it's certainly a pleasant vessel to look at. Not nearly as bad as what everyone else says. I might try building one as my second ship.

Is HMS Tiger a good ship? I'm looking to build her as my first ship. I understand that she is similar to Lion, so hopefully Tuggy can tell me some things about her.

So are there any battleships or battlecruisers with SUPERFIRING turrets that are okay?

Build whatever would make you happy. As a new captain with a new boat, you won't be very combat effective anyway so it's doesn't matter much what you hit the pond with. Build what you will have fun with. If you want to finish your first build, pick something simple (like a cruiser everyone has been recommending).

Lutzow is good looking, ie German lol, and would be a decent beginner ship.
