NTXBG has them already installed on some of our active Big Gun ships. I’ll be able to use it in our battles, no worries. I previously read through IRC rules and didn’t see anything. Please LMK if IRC has any restrictions on self stabilization systems. I have no problem removing it for NATS’24…. But I’d like to know ahead of time!!
Let me know how that works. I remember trying list-control systems in several ships when I was battling with WWCC, but I was never able to get one that worked well. I could never move enough weight to be worthwhile unless I put so much weight up there that it became top-heavy or the servo couldn't move it. For rotating turrets, I put weight on the back of the turret to counteract the weight of the barrels. That, and designing cannons that are powerful enough that they don't need absurdly long barrels to hit hard. Sounds like yours are pretty good though.
You see anyone attach it to a gyro controller before? In my head, I was assuming a gyro-controlled stabilization system could be as heavy as you want, because the weight would be working against the natural ship roll. I’m going to hit up bass pro for some 2+lbs sinkers today.
Update - I was able to put the boat in the water yesterday. I didn’t get video because the pool is just too small to test the viability of stabilization. I need to get to the lake. What I did learn: I can’t fit 2lbs in my SS, so I had to settle on 3oz. I might try increasing to 6oz by cutting into the deck. The system doesn’t work as a first-wave-counterbalance system. I’m guessing the gyro is just not fast enough to keep up with the wave. The system doesn’t work well when the ship is not moving. It just seems to react better to quick jerks than slow pivots, which makes some sense to me... although I’m a little disappointed. It CAN work as a dampener to the subsequent harmonic rolls. However, it wasn’t intuitive to me how to set it up. I had to configure it backwards, such that the weigh moves WTH the wave. When the TROUGH of the wave comes, the weight is already loaded as a counter. This initially felt like a bad idea, but there seems to be enough delay in the gyro that the wave is already starting into the trough by the time the weight is fully loaded. Overall, it’s not a plug-and-play as I had dreamed; however there is definitely something here to iterate on.
Metal barrel guns are ready!! My new problem is tweaking them down low enough to not fail the weapons test!! I’ve also added a counter weight to the back of the cannons. Each barrel is a total of 0.5oz, so I’ve added a slot for a 1-oz fishing weight on the back. A buddy of mine has a chronograph; in the next few weeks we’ll be able to set it up and see how hard these things actually hit.
...and I have a Deutschland Superstructure! Once I get it to print nicely, I'll be sure to add it to the resource section. LMK if anyone wants a copy of the SuperStructure now.
For the fun of it, I've overlayed the superstructures of the Deutschland vs the Graf Spee. Admiral Graf Spee: - Note I widened the smoke stack to accommodate my ship auto leveling system. Deutschland / Lutzow: Graf Lutzow:
