Hey bb26 since you were the latest Nabs member to attend a Nats what do I need to bring as far as equipment and supplies go.
I was thinkikng of packing up a new toobox that would contain all my essential spare parts and supplies for the NATS.
Batteries I would purchase there in Halifax and bring down to Nats.
What about clothes. How warm does it get down there?

Hey curt. Well you would just need your normal summer clothes. you might want to take a jacket in case it rains and include a few plastic bags in your tool kit. If it rains you may want to cover your transmitter. You will need to look at a lighting system for the night battle. As for your tool box, from my experience you really need to have the material to maintain all systems while down there. So some quickly interchangeable parts Some stuff can be shared such as patching material. You will need battery chargers. Batteries you can obtain here. And lastly a towel just in case you have to go in and fish out the beast :)

Since the Go Pro Hero Rc camera will be going down I wonder if someone will have a laptop or computer that I could download the video to a cd or dvd.

Thanks Marty. That would be great. I saw a great idea for mounting this camera. Something that has not been done yet to really get the sense of scale and view of the battle with a wider field of view. I saw on youtube a RC car that had a armature mounted to the chassis extended away from the driver side of the car about 2 ft so that the lens could take in the whole car and area in front behind and at the back of the car. What I want to do is mount an armature swing arm that can retract and elevate the camera in different postions. The armature would be angled in such a way as to not become an obstruction around the model and not interfere with the other models during combat. The Camera would have a elevation height I figure about 15 inches above the deck and be able to swing out 3 ft from the stern or less. This way I could film the battles at different points of view around the model and see the action around the ship instead of just a very limited field of view. Now the camer could be lowered to 6 inches above the deck and be pointed in any direction while on the armature. I'm going to draw up several designs and then make a couple of armatures to try out.
If this works were going to get a very unique video of RC combat ships in action.

Cool, I also have a recording video camera (different make) and intend to try it at our regionals but it will be fixed over my stern guns.

Great Marty. I came up with several ideas. The main concern is not so much the bb fire as the Camera will be well above the usual height that a bb would normall skip and any deflections off a ship's deck or superstructure will dissiapte the bbs energy quite a bit. Besides I so far have seen the video of these cameras attached to RC helis falling a 1000ft and surviving and seen one that fell off a motorcycle hitting the pavement at 70 mph with only a scuff on the outercasing. My main concern is to ensure thta the armature does not pose a hazard when the model sinks and it doesn't snal any ships next to the model as it sinks. Mind you I won't have the armature overhaning the stern or main deck in anyway it will be lined up with the ships keep but at a height so that it can get a height overview facing foward, or side or aft. I think once it's set
and I post the setup it should be fine and pose no hazard for the battle. As long as I DON'T sail underneath a low hanging branch I should be fine.

No but thanks for the"HEADS UP" Marty. I'M going to use the flexible but stiff rods they use to mount security cameras and halogen lamps. The type you can bend in any shape or wrap around the pole. It should give plenty of support and be easy to secure the deck . I will be getting a 32g sd card to record lots of video action.
Bismarck is very stable platform and should handle the camera no problem.

Go to the IRC site, www.ircwcc.org and Calendar of Events and click on Nationals. There is a building (large cabin, it's a boy scout camp) at the nats site and people can either camp in the field nearby or sleep in the building. There is also a hotel in town.

Camp Conron is 58 ac. with 6 lean-toos and a large "house" that can sleep 8 to 10.
If you want to camp out in the campground then bring a tent and sleeping bag and a good
flash-light. The house has a full kitchen and bath. The motels in the area are about 80$ per day,
and are more comforable than the "house", in the house there are twenty or so "boys" grinding
and making all sorts of noise at all hours of the day and night.

All the Stuff of combat can be left on site day or night and you don't have to lug your batteries
    to the motel to charge.

I stay on site and camp in a small tent on the rifle range (way in the back). The benifit to the sleeping
at the camp is that after several "beers" and BS at night , I'm only a short stumble to my tent. And in the
morning I get breakfast without driving.

GF has to be VERY tolerant to the hobby if you are bring her to Nats, some how BS fests at 2-3 AM make for
cold drives to and from the motel. My wife has learned that a battle event isn't very much fun for her and
    she stays home.

Good to know. My Gf rather go than be home while I was on vacation. She likes the ships and has operated bb26's vu which she used to put a couple below my Yamato. She takes pretty good pics to of the models on the pond. She's watched the vids with me so I think she will have a decent time.
I checked out the info on IRCWCC.ORG.(Thanks for the link Marty) so what exactly does a "Small Fleet" battle entail as compared to the large Fleet. And what is a "Pickup battle" ?

Last year there was a father son battle, some 2 on 2 and other battles. You can challenge other captains. It is pretty much open.

We are starting to get a bit of women in the hobby. Steve's wife Ginger is now an active captain, Jim B.'s wife usually does our video and is starting to battle. Plato's wife is an active battler. She wouldn't be alone. Carlos is right though, she is going to have to be very tolerant of all of us and our sillyness. The night shopping trips really make for a memorable week of fun though....
you know we are buying pounds of bacon and having pool noodle fights in the aisles...
And it is boys playing with toys til all hours of the night.
I stay in my pop up "hilton" and try to stay up later than Carl....
