How do you figure out what the prop rpm should be for different boats?

    Realistically? Trial and error.

It has to do with a lot more than just what boat your are running. Prop size/prop pitch/prop location/number of props/boat weight,etc...

Like Darth Kessler says... I usually ask someone who is running that ship what they use, and start testing from that point.

I'll look at the Iowa and start from there, since there's very few Alsaces out there :)

This is the truth. A few years ago, I swapped out the 500's in my Invincible for 380s. Since I battle Treaty and we run at slower speeds I felt that the smaller motors would serve me better (and the 500's were in poor shape). I also had a busted blade on one of my props, so I put my old 26 second fast gun props back on, thinking that the extra prop area would help me.

I ended up not being able to get up to speed, at all. the big props were too much for the smaller motors to drive. I swapped out the big props for a set of smaller props and now she runs beautifully again.
