@GregMcFadden , What size props fit on the inner shafts? And is there a part number for those gearboxes?
Will check when I get home. I believe it is 1.5. Gearboxes are modified new traxxas with a special metal plate Stephen needs to cut. Stephen carries them. Brass threaded inserts are used extensively. I will have to get part number tonight but Stephen is planning on stocking.
Any word on when they will be available from Strike? There's got to be 50 zillion places that'll cut a run of kits for a decent price.
3d pdf for your viewing pleasure. must have recent acrobat, read up on 3d pdf manipulation, etc, but you can rotate/view model at various angles this way as well as hide/show parts. as an aside: keep in mind that my shafts are greased up on the outside with release agent so that I can easily install/remove when the hull is done. just undo the screw in the motor mount holding them in place and slide out. With permanently mounted shafts, the rib in front of the motor mount will have to be knotched to allow mount removal.
This post is really just to remind myself to post some pictures. I have motors mounted, tank mounted, 3 of 4 cannons mounted... solenoids come in on Wednesday, then all I have left to make is a pump and mount it before I can sheet it. Just remember to use the motor template when installing the motor mount bases for the traxxas gearboxes (well and make sure you have the new style traxxas gearboxes also when you do that) or use the old style which stephen still has a ton of. I prefer the new style, much stronger.
pictures below. still have one solenoid to mount that does not have a home. pump not yet fabricated but it has a home. CG is a little aft so I may end up moving/adding batteries further forwards . Planning to run it with a 0.5 unit pump initially, and change as necessary. I will get better pictures when I get everything fully mounted as it all has to come apart for a final seal on the tube fittings, cable bundling and cleanup and waterproof of newly added brackets
I have everything except sheeting, pump, receiver, props, and a few feet of wiring in the P and she is weighing in at about 13 pounds..... out of 21 max... add 7 oz when the co2 tank is full and a pound of shot... that leaves me at a minimum about 4-5 pounds to get it in the scale waterline range.
So stephen's (Strike) new silkspan works nicely. The strips are really easy to work with, much better than the squares that were previously available..
Balance point is correct, everything in but pump and props... props should come this week. pump is dubious. 30 points if you can guess what critical component has attached the superstructure to the toolbox (nick you know already, no cheating).
superstructure needs detailing (was more interested in getting her on the water) but she drives fairly well as long as it is kept to speed. first estimate on gearing and props was a skosh absurd (unless it is legal to make the provence a dynamic diver in which case game on) . I hope to get the waterline and below painted before the next battle, but all in all I am quite pleased with this little ship. Even when it is acting as a mooring point for nick. the green tube is because I felt bad going mastless. hope to replace soon but there are some internal details that will get worked, namely fixing a tolerancing issue on the pump and getting some drag disks on her.
um...looking at that last pic....did the lookout shout "iceberg, right ahead" just prior to that giant tear appearing? And it also looks like you've got a termite problem....
