Started on the wood masters for the superstructure. These will be covered in plastic card and foam copies will be the end result.

This was a tough one to piece together from the plans. Everything is dry fitted at this point.

Working on the turret master, this is the rough plug that still needs filling and sanding in order to get all the correct angles.

Once I wrap the base in the termite armor, the diameter will be correct and the turret will sit flush.

Continuing on with wrapping the superstructure in plastic. Each level has to be identified as a single casting or if it can be glued to the previous set for one large casting. This is in the rough stage, need to fill and sand each level.

Slow but steady, funnel rounded on ends and continuing on with covering the wood core with plastic.

Funnel covered in plastic and green putty. The base of the forward superstructure has been filled and sanded. A coat of green primer on everything. Hull has been sheeted and first coat of paint.

Adding details to the hanger deck. This will be cast in two parts. Starting to add portholes and other detail.

Blurry pic but you can make out the new aft superstructure, just starting the rough cuts of the pieces on top.

@c Clark- Probably not, taking my time with this build. I have the cruiser for the next few battles.

Adding detail to the sides, cant super detail as the molding process for foam will just not show it well.
This will be good for stand off scale, can always add more after casting to copies. All this will be lightweight foam so I can keep the weight low in the hull.
Superstructure pieces on top, everything is just a dry fit at this point. Tripod mast will be added after casting, will just use plastic rod. Wind deflectors in front will be a little challenge to cast.

They make straight-up ladders, and the more slanted ones. Don't put them anywhere they're likely to be shot :) Polystyrene is very brittle. Lou's making molds, which are unlikely to be shot much :)

Working on the hanger deck. Once parts are cast, the upper and lower will be joined together to clean up the seam.
I decided for fun to open one of the hanger bays. The rough shape is created in both pieces.
Hanger will be molded as a separate piece, then installed in the housing. Just like the real one, space is very tight. I made it slightly smaller to account for the foam over-expanding in either piece.
And now in its new home. There is a face plate that goes on the front to clean up this end of the hanger deck.

All this is molded so that I can replace pieces after this gets shot up.
