Ise, Hyuga, Kiev. 3 off the top of my head. Not that they were great at either, but they were both CVs and BBs. But totally not the image I want for one of my boats. Nothing says 'Clark' like a flat plywood deck at sea
Cleaned up the belt line in preparation of final cutting of the two stringers. Interior received another coat of primer.
Next step is securing the internal components to the ship, no shifting of weight when rammed. In the shot below, I am trying a right angle made out of fiberglass from McMaster Carr. So far it cuts well on the saw. The choice of fiberglass is in keeping with no need to waterproof, and fiberglass to fiberglass should be a strong bond. Now I need to refine the shape and make four of them. +1 if you can guess what it does/is.
Nope. You will really like the battery holder when you see it, can't be missed! Clue for that one : "Howdy Pardner"
It is a bracket to hold the solenoid. In the shot below I tried the paint you can get from a car store and had limited success. We just move stuff around a lot and the paint starts to chip, plus having the components under water for a while softens the paint, so I will try powder coating next.
That style of bracket was fine for three of the setups, the fourth required a different design so that I could get to the screw and still lift out the solenoid. I have cut the fiberglass angle to the correct width and now need to make the channel. Started by using the drill press.
Two versions together, more I look at it I think I will make all of them the style on the right. Thoughts on the fiberglass angle. I really like it, in the past I have used aluminum angle but that still requires a mechanical fastening to the deck and you are limited in choices (or it starts to get real expensive). I have a belt sander, so I am able to thin the material (you can see the difference between the two near the top, I took off 1/8 on the right one) and it cuts well on the saw. It is not inexpensive, but it doesn't need to be water proofed and it will be a fiberglass to fiberglass connection joined with west system. How strong is it? It is the same material that BC uses for their gearbox motor mounts, so plenty strong with a good track record.
Thanks for the replies, I only get about 15-20 minutes per night so this forum helps keep me going. We now have paint!
