    Rob,
No reason you can't go ahead with a Renown project. If you have the Polish plans they'll have the complex but accurate bulge shapes (which will pose a challenge to sheeting with balsa).

From photos of Ian's plug he may be using a plan set modified for R/C naval combat as the bulge shapes are simplified and lack the stepped section close to the waterline. The bulges on Renown were of similar design to Warspite's.

Plans can differ considerably. The Wisweisser (sp?) plans for Warspite showed a simplified bulge shape, but the Anatomy of the Ship book showed the true and complex shape.

An alternative for you would be to build the WWI version, for which I have excellent drawings with multiple hull cross-sections. The original bulges were smaller and simpler in shape.

That would be cool to see. Two different versions of the same ship.

Well if you want to do one, I say do it. Don't let anyone turn you off a project.

Well, I am just thinking that if a hull is already available it doesn't make sense to build another copy of it. For the same effort a different ship can be made and then the number of available ships goes up.

I guess I should proceed -- I have all the keel, deck, and forms all cut out. Besides there is a good chance that the plug will be defective in some way --- I do have a high failure rate -- but I have made some that work too.

The version I have is WWII Renown. Very different bulges from the earlier versions. I am going to try to simplify the stepped bulges to make it easier to sheet, but not too much -- I like that look.

My Renown is as refitted, and shows a lot of red all along the bulge when moving. She seems to take a lot of below the water-line hits due to this.
My info on the class as-built shows that the bulge is quite a bit lower,
and therefore may show less red when cruising around in combat.
The as-built version would probably also be less likey to take ram damage
    (on the bulge).

Interesting Froggy, this Renown does not seem to have the protruding bulges that you talked about but they are still noticable.

I hope to start assembling my Renown plug on Monday.
With any luck it will have its first coat of plaster sometime this week.
