Okay I admit there is a problem but not with the ship. I’ll just come out with it I have a cookie fetish
her first float in decades. I honestly don’t know the last time she was in the water but a while. Just getting her balanced
So still work in progress. I wasn’t happy with the way she turned. I modified shaft locations inward cut the keel to get the props close as possible. I then installed shilling rudder. I bought the props and rudder from shape ways snipe hunter store. I got everything position then added a second 1 unit pump I will install 1/2 unit restrictor. This give this ship a ton Of options
With a rudder that 'long,' you might want to move the rudder post location further aft to have a more balanced rudder. It could easily cover both props
Currently it has 1” 1/4 Kort style props with shilling 3.75rudder. I purchased them from sniphunter store at shapeways.com. I believe the store name is rc warship tech. I was running 1 1/2” propellers. the whole shot was great but really hurt turning ability. So I went to 1 1/4” props angled them so that there nearly touching. I wanted the single rudder to take full advantage of the thrust cone. The current configuration really was a huge improvement in turning ability some loss in torq/whole shot. I took Kevin’s advice and I’m currently moving the rudder aft. Relocating the rudder post to make it more balanced that way the rudder covers both props.
Yeah dude, Seriously if you do it right, that thing will turn on a proverbial dime. With the size of that rudder and changing the pivot point, you'd block both props with a fair amount of overhang on either side.
wish I could pull the same trick on Texas easily, but I'll leave that to a future refit as doing so will involve ripping apart the stern. I'll for sure build it into the new boat, then once it's operational, back-refit the Texas.
I read your post about your Texas while I was researching to improve my set up. That’s one of the reasons I when to the smaller props
