I don’t think I would be able to battle anyone I live in Alberta Canada and I don’t think anyone battles there
There are battling clubs all over, including some guys up in the great white north with you, but spread out all over. Why dont you post a thread in the "Introductions" area with where you live so that way others that are closer to you can help you out more? Only way to find out if there is another Captain anywhere nearby.
Hey, Morgan, if you decide to go with a Suffren, good luck.! They're good ships. A little tippy, but very maneuverable. Here is a short video I made of my Suffren. It will give you an idea what one is like. BTW, Des Moines are good ships too, but be forwarned they loooong.
Buying the hull from Battlers connection is the faster route. If you have woodworking tools, a wood hull is cheaper. If you don't have tools you're probably best off buying the hull from BC.
A fiberglass hull will result in a better overall ship. Imho. More internal room. Easier to set up water channel etc. Faster to build. They do not rot.
For the des moines would I buy the hull the hardware kit and some plans to build the super structure from scratch
If you know how to make a wood hull, you can make one in 1/2 a day (no skin) then seal it and it will last a long time. I have boats that are over 30 years old.
Agreed. If you seal it properly it will last a very long time. Fiberglass is just a lot more foolproof in that area.
Of course that implies that you know what you are doing and have experience. For those people who have little to no experience working with wood, a fibreglass hull is the way to go for at least the first ship. Especially if you don't have a place nearby that sells quality aircraft ply like a hobby store (the ply at home depot/lowes is garbage).
Hobby lobby has Midwest plywood. And if you use the app on your phone you get a 40% off coupon for one item each week. You can also use it daily as long as the clerk don't remember you from yesterday lol.
Midwest Or Revell ply are what he is likely to find up here in Canada. We don't have hobby lobby here. Fortunately he is in a big city (Edmonton?) so he shouldn't have a problem sourcing it locally.
