I started out with hand tools and a dremel, then broke down and bought a scroll saw for 40 bucks off CL.

Good choice! It'll make the decks much easier to make.

The guy 'teaching' it had heart trouble and then a job change. Look for updates soon.

Nothing so far... just getting the medication dosages walked onto target.

@Joker - Your Baden looks sweet! My Baden (aka Badenlicious) is running around the pool and the guns are 1/2 mounted. I've been held up by Brian K's vacation; I carved plugs for the forthcoming Grey Wolf Sqdn Shipyard (that's a mouthful)Baden casemates and I'm waiting on Brian to get back and start casting! But I have the GWSS rudders on her and she turns rediculously well. Christopher K had his Bayern in my pool with Badenlicious and they were both zipping hither and yon.

The upcoming lesson will be a quickie on the remaining hard areas that need to be filled in, and on some other minor stuff.

I know of one person who's contacted me who is looking to build Edgar Q in 1/96... sweet!

Hey Tug, can we entice you back on this thread with the promise of being able to put in a profile picture and a sig line? Nick's been working on the forum and got that part working again. Think of how you can dominate this thread with an awesome profile pic!

Okay, I've started cleaning up the thread and posting it as more of a class than a discussion. At least so far. I've got it done up thru page 23 and will keep working at it and we will finish Edgar Quinet! As I worked on it, it struck me as funny; some of the people who were new when we started have been battling for more than a year (maybe 2)! Wow. Anyhow, that's the update; I've got the cleaned-up (but not edited much yet) class on google sites Model Warship University. I will look at getting it on here in a separate locked thread after I clean it up.

Gearbox and brushless motor are sitting next to the hull, pump is being constructed, guns are ready to go in. Can she be ready for combat this weekend? Only time... will tell.

Well with the classic Tugworks superstructure she should be fine.

True. This is one of those cases that I've got everything, but can it all come together in time? Still soldering pump impellers, but I think it'll be good. Not the same as running Scharnie at Nats, but I'll still be having armored cruiser fun. And I'm correcting a few things I've thought about while battling Scharnie.

Yeah, it's brushless and pretty. Hit some snags but effected corrections. Might get on water for this coming battle, might not. Either way it'll be ready for November.

Pics coming this weekend of the rudder, motor, gearbox, and pump! (Including instructions for making these things)
Down the road, I will be using my lathe to make plugs for casting smokestacks, too!

I promised Jeromy that he could drive Edie at the Brouhaha, so it needs to be ready! Good thing all the parts are in the shop already! The drive and pump are identical to Scharnie's for simplicity and reliability. Edie's a little longer, but she does have the larger, scale size-and-shape rudder, so she may well out-turn Scharnie!
