Hey, Tugboat, when are you going to finish this? I really enjoyed reading all this, and it really helped me on my Suffren. Thanks for everything so far, Beaver
Yeah, that would would be great! I can't tell you how much this thread has helped me on my build. Thanks, Beaver
So I got out in the shop for a bit, and dusted off Edie Q. I have the brushless motor that will be driving her in the hull, along with the ESC, so tomorrow those get installed. I slipped the battery into the bracket, as well, to give you an idea where I put it. Ahead of the battery is the bracket for the CO2 bottle's regulator, the 3.5oz bottle is forward with the regulator facing aft. The ESC is a Hobby King 45A car ESC that has been waterproofed. A closer view of the cheap and easy battery bracket... It's one big piece of wood and one small piece of wood. The big one is on the left in this pic, notched to fit the 3 ribs it crosses, and with a little short tab sticking inboard to lock the battery in place. The short piece on the right just holds the battery in place in the middle of the hull. In this pic, we haven't cut the water channel yet, but you can see the 'Good Stuff'-and-wax paper fill method between the ribs. In retrospect, not the best choice, because you have to trim the tops level with the hard area, and the exposed end is not closed-cell, so it has to be sealed. Still cheaper than buying balsa block, though, and cheaper is the name of the game on this one I just pour leftover epoxy in the exposed areas as I work on other stuff.
Happy to help! More pics this weekend showing the motor install, with options for brushless or brushed.
What's a lost cause? HAHAHA She's on a shelf at the moment, life got in the way and then the 3D printer, and then ... I need to finish Edie, but I need TIME. The Great Enemy.
The operative verb there is LIVES it... Hehehe. Anyone interested in foamcore RC airplanes? Squirrel!
if airplanes are out of the picture, how do you feel about airships? Once I perfect my anti-gravity device...
Any updates? Been reading this thread for build technique. Looks like a great how-to for me, a new guy.
