Newly reported to the Building 626 in Charleston. Even if the throttles are wide open, she's going no where. I suppose that's what you get when you try to use a sci-fi technology like the Wave Motion Engine... Sorry, that was a bit off topic. Back to the point: Scharnhorst is drop-dead gorgeous. Her history isn't bad either, with a tie for the longest range hit on a moving target.
If they would have build it under fixed cost instead of cost plus, the damned thing would be doing mach2 across the water three years ago.
“Contract”, second dirtiest word I know behind “politics”. The frequency with which I have seen companies wring thousands of dollars profit out of every little shop is astounding. Watched GD Electric Boat get paid over $140k to do and redo the same critical pipe joint that they kept messing up (back when I was on subs). 14 attempts to get it right.
Scharnhorst is a great ship. But after her sister was damage the lucky ship's luck ran out :-( RIP old lady. Gone but never forgotten. Nikki
I like the modern 74 gun training ships, built in 1929. The Italians built sexy looking ships. Still in use today.
