I got the stern together. I used pullys and toothed belts like I seen some of you use and what I ended up with will turn circle's clock wise and then change direction and go counter clock wise inside my daughter's 15' pool without touching the side's. when going full ahead turning full R or L almost stop's the ship's forward motion. When against the side of the pool if I turn into the side and give full ahead the stern of the ship will move side ways away from the side of the pool with almost no forward motion. I've read monuverability is critical and I'm pleased with what I see. still the ship isnt at full load and I suspect I will lose at laest a little maybe a lote with more draft?
Has any one ever used a triple stern and 1 rotating canon in the secound bow turret on a Sharnhorst for fast gun?? Or even Dual sterns and 1 rotating canon in the bow with 100 bb's?? If that's even leagal? The reason is the increased angle posible in the secound turret would be nice on both sides I think?? -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- SRK Marine
My Gneisenau has that set up, except my front doesn't rotate. Rick King has been running his Scharnhorst with that exact setup (triple stern, rotating sidemount up front) for years and does very well with it.
May want to add an additional attachment point for the forward mounting screws on the servo. The torque of the belt may tend to pull the single attachment lose over time.
Thanks every body I never thought of putting more than one lay out and reconfiguring at lakeside. I think maybe a sidemount on each side up front (fixed) and triple/double stern is a great idea! It's going to get crowded in the back. Maybe I should use smaller acumualators? I'm getting 2-6v 10amp battery's I have 2-20oz. co2 bottle's so I can just carry these and not worry about a big tank. I have another question where and how do you mount fast guns? In the hull or to the deck? I know there are many style's so I'd rather research than rebuild. hahaha. Thank's for your help Steve
2-20oz bottles is way too much for a scharnhorst fast gun... 1-9oz is all that's really needed for a fast gun iowa, and 1 20 oz is all thats needed for a big gun alsace... note: 3x 4barrel cannons. I would really recommend recouping some of that hull space by using 1 smaller bottle instead of 2 large ones. I'm actually impressed you got 2 20 oz's in your scharnny.... Can you post a pic of that some time? Hell, could you write a scuttlebutt article: "Overkill: Carrying enough CO2 for the rest of my life."? Something else you might consider, I can't really see the inner workings, but why not move that rudder servo aft and replace that single "transmission" pulley? Or put it in backwards & get a slightly longer belt? ALSO, are you looking to get rid of that pinball machine I see in the background?
Two 20oz bottles isn't too much. It just means you won't have to reload during a whole week of Nats. I used a single 20oz bottle in my big gun scharny, and it could last two sorties. The Montana on the WWCC website is designed to use two 20oz bottles.
On close inspection of the rudder drive assembly, it seems to me that the single "transmission" pulley is actually a tensioning device, and needed for that purpose. The only thing I may have done differently would have been to mount the servo upside-down, just for the sake of keeping the electronics out of the water a little longer. That, and perhaps a little sanding down of the rudders, that thick leading edge just dosen't look right. Still, a fine job.
Sorry I meant I'll carry 1 20 oz. bottle in the boat and one ready to replace it. The rudder settup is really tight. I am going to add another mounting point. I can't turn the servoe upside down because it would be above the deck. The pinball machine's belong to my wife I'll ask.
