A quick rebuild on a Shinano

Quite a beast, makes the Scharnhorst look pretty small

A few before pictures. main things to do are replace drivetrain, make space for weights lower in hull, probably add a few pumps

    Step 1 was remove shafts

Cleaned out aft foam to make room for motor mounts and more level shafts

Not much build time recently, was able to print up a little gearbox structure to go along with the 700 series motor mount. A bit much for a convoy but I wanted to get the motor slightly out of the water, I also wanted to use mainly existing parts so the 700 series 12V motors fit the bill

Added 5 degree wedge to go under bracket

Simple gear cover to keep out bits of things

Hopefully get the shafts in next weekend

Nice looking gearbox. Hope you put some cooling coils on the motors.

Will handle the gearboxes in the next batch, will be easier with the shafts solid in place

15 minutes a day gets boats built

gearbox is drying. Didn’t use wedges, used clamps to set angle off the gearbox reference. Through hull screws and some glass over, hopefully it all works out
