would make sense to add steam and gas engines to your battleship to give it some power and realisim (AND IM AWARE OF THE DANGERS OF A BOILER EXPLODING AND A FUEL TANK BUSTING) but im thinking the engine being heavily protected

I can see that happening but could you not just drain the tank or drain the engine

That is why you can have the fuel tank classed as a no shoot zone or heavily armour it and that means to counter all that front weight you can get bigger guns and put everything up front

No. Just NO. Go to a battle, see what it's like. Build a ship of your own by our stodgy old hidebound rules, and then battle it. After a year of battling, see what you think about this idea. Without experience, it'd be like someone who's never seen a car giving me advice on how to best do heel&toe driving on slippery roads.

Closest thing that I would try would be a convoy ship with a steam engine sans boiler & run off regulated CO2. But only as a for fun item. Half the cool fun would be hidden too with all the cool workings not on display while out on the pond. Plus...dang those things are pricey.

not really expensive if you roam places like hobbyking a maybe just maybe if you have enough money.......Go To Mini toy steam.com but over there gas engines are expensive but the cool thing is there handmade and there are detailed working models of 1900-? engines

I don't see a steam engine being anywhere near competitive. For a "drive around and look pretty" model it would be cool but given the size/cost/weight/performance you want to be competitive (this is a COMBAT hobby, it's competitive by nature) a steam engine seems impractical.

550can electric motors cost me 5$ each and are reliable. Why would I want to sacrifice more money for more complexity and less reliability?

We're limited in speed -- you're not going to be able to get your warship to plane on a pond. As for efficiency, if cheap gets the job done and is reliable, why go for way more complicated?

An armed ekranoplan is not legal. You can do them, but it's not legal, and more importantly, it's not safe in the least. And they are 1) Not 'technically ships'. They are amphibious aircraft. 2) They don't fit any current battle rules, largely because of safety issues. And, you would not be able to get insurance for your events. You could run an event without insurance, but the first person to need medical care will get the rest of you sued. And, most sites won't even talk to you if you don't have insurance. It's already hard to get ponds for boat battles, I expect it's probably a million times harder getting a pond for illegal, dangerous activities that you don't have insurance for.

Maybe if you would stop and consider that maybe people on the forums are at least as smart as you think you are, you would manage not to embarrass yourself quite so thoroughly.
