Gorgeous! Simply gorgeous! Are you using those two forward AA gun emplacements as your forward deck hold downs as well?
Thanks people. I never considered the forward emplacements for deck hold downs but I think I can work that in. Good suggestion.
The hull has the wL tape on both sides now. Looks better. I started work on hooking up the rudders. Not sure at this time so close to the wedding if I can get the Mo ready for running sea trials. Superstructure is awaiting the Termite walls and the SK 2 radar unit. I am waiting for the 2 Kingfishers from Peter's Planes. The 2lb dive weight is secured in the forward part of the hull. I started making the stern gun bulbous parts of the gun tubs that cling to the sides of the hull at the stern.
Thanks Rob. Update . Rudder servo and hook up complete. Same system I used for Bismarck. Simple but reliable and I get a good rudder throw. I ran out of time to get the battery harness, and the motors and pump hooked up so that won't occur till next week.
I secured the rudder servo mount to the hull bottom and have linked up the rudder pushrods and arms. I gave it a test and adjusted the throw range. Works great. With less than 3 days to the wedding I doubt I will get the wiring harness ready but hey you got to set the goal. Hmmm need Scotty's estimation of launch times mulitpled by a factor of 2. Anyway least the model is ready for some of the guys from NS to and NB to have a look at.
Well I am now on my new lease of life. Wedding was great. I wish to thank the guys from NS and NB who attended. Everything is good. Boat news. I spoke to the owner of the Roma and offered to purchase it from him. The Roma is a hull that was originally made by Ralph Coles back in 1997 . I purchased it as a hull with Main turrets only back then. It was sold in Robert Clarke I think then Russell purchased it from him. Robert Clarke had made a lexan deck for it with hatches. Russell than purchased a complete superstructure package from Carl Camurati back in 1999 I think. Basically the model has been with me since then. It was finally completed in 2007 but has remained here with me. The new Captain is heavily involved in other endeavors and is in an areal where there are no such interest groups around for this kind of hobby and no place to sail let alone battle. So I offered to buy it. Other parties were interested but they were gracious to let me have first crack at it. I did post the entire build of this ship here under the A.R.C.C. section here if anyone want to see the buld process on that model. I love this model and ship and I intend as I always have will take very good care of it. So Roma is the newest addtion to the Axis Fleet and my ship lineup. On to other news. USS MISSOURI will begin to have it's throttle system engines and pump motor wired and operational very soon. Will be getting this model out for pics of it's second float test very soon.
Glad to hear the wedding was good! Awesome deal with the Roma, you did a beautiful job with that ship. It really suits you.
I am always sad when I hear of a ship that will never see action. There are enough ships that are never completed, or sold out of the hobby, or languish forgotten in someone's garage or basement covered in dust. At least you plan to to use it for demonstrations, though.
I thought of taking the cannons and co2 system out but I am just going to leave it for entertainment.
Actually i would take some of the cannons out and co2. I wonder if you couldn't make the turrets rotate for display purposes.
Lots of options there Paul. I repainted the Roma's quarterdeck with the candy stripes same as the bow today. For Missouri I test wired up the throttle switches to the batteries and drive motors today for a test. I mistakenly had it wired in series but a quick correction fixed that. Tomorrow I will get rid of the adhoc wiring and make a new permanent wiring harness for the batteries. Capacictors will be installed on all motors. Pump mount will be made if I have time tomorrow which will secure the dedicated servo for both pump switches. . One will be a float switch type and the other will be dedicated as a switch lever from the TX. The motors fired up nicely today. Still nice and smooth. I hope to have it ready for launch for sea trials this weekend.
I rewired the wiring harness today and did a much cleaner job of it. The negative wire battery harness is ready. Capacitors are on both drive motors and the pump motor. I had to take the drive motors out of the gear mounts to install the capicitors. So far it's coming along nicely.
