Well, that shows you how much I know about brushless. ( not much ;) ) So what do they do, how do I hook them up with the ESC?
Just sort of a heads up, I'm probably going to be asking lots of questions as I start fitting out Suffry. :)

Your brushless esc (you did get a brushless esc too right?) should have three wires to plug the motor into. If once you have it hooked up & running, the shaft is turning the wrong direction, you can simply swap any 2 of the 3 wires positions, and the problem will be solved. The brushless esc is hooked up to your power source in the same manner as a brushed esc (red to red, black to black or if you prefer, positive to positive and negative to negative).

So a brushless motor acts just like a large 3 phase pump motor?

or are they actually 3 phase

Is there any order as to how I hook those wires up? They're not labeled on the motor, but they have letters assigned to them on the ESC. ( yes I got an ESC)

it doesnt matter what order unless the shaft is spinning the wrong way.

Sorry, JKN, I didn't see your comment. I'm not quite sure if it is a three phase or not. Really, to be honest, I have almost no idea how electronics are supposed to be connected and all of the other stuff needed to get them to be happy. I guess you could say I'm more mechanically inclined, than electrically inclined. :)

Question for you guys. I got out my motor and ESC, hooked them together, and every time I hooked up the juice, the motor twitched and then didn't move, while the ESC started beeping and flashing lights. What's the matter, did I do something wrong?

They are 3 phase. It doesn't matter which wire goes to which, but if you hook it up and it's spinning the opposite direction that you want, reverse any TWO tires of the three, and it'll reverse direction.
Beaver, did you have the ESC hooked up to a servo tester or recevier that had power?

No, it's just the battery hooked up to the ESC, which is hooked up to the motor.

The ESC is looking for a command signal.

Is there any way I can give it one without a servo tester or receiver?

"no" I guess that answers my question... :) So I guess I'll skip around that and get the motor all attached to the shaft. Question for the more experienced than me, on my battery,
http://www.hobbyking.com/hobbyking/store/uh_viewItem.asp?idProduct=16224 there is a third wire other that the positive and the negative. What is it??? Or maybe I should ask what is it for???

The third wire (actually, its a bundle of wires), is for the balance plug, which is only used when you charge the battery. Balancing the battery maximises the available capacity, and prolongs battery life.

I knew it was a bundle of wires, but I didn't want to confuse you trying to describe it. :) Thanks for answering all my questions I've had so far.

Let you know when any progress takes place.

So I figured that if I'm going to get this ship battle ready by spring, I'd better get working on her. :) So today's task was to get a motor mount.

Not seen in the photo, but the bearing in the front was rubbing on the bottom of the mount, so I had to file that down a bit.

I love those kind of mounts :) One suggestion, use a cutting wheel on your Dremel, and cut vertical channels for the motor mount screws to allow some adjustability. Even if the gears line up right, you want to be able to adjust gear lash.

@Tugboat, thanks, I like them as well, even though it's not as cool as your 3DP ones. ;)

I would follow on to Tug's suggestion and suggest that you get some washers to go between those screw heads and the mount

Washers came with the motor, plus lock washers. I'm going to use them, they're just not in the photos. :)

    Thanks for reminding me though....
