Very nice! Another option to seal the wood is the popular Marine Spar varnish. Cheaper then epoxy and easier to apply imo. Although either works fine.
I've used it before and it does work very very well. I can't seem to get here locally anymore but if you can get it go for it.
Spray cans of the varnish make application super easy if you have all around access to the frames. That's how I did Lex.
I already bought a can of it, but the spray can thing would be easy. So far, all the ribs have been waterproofed with epoxy. Do any of you guys know if it would do any harm to wipe on the spar varnish? I've seen it done with polyurethane, so I don't see why it wouldn't work. Beaver
As long as the epoxy is fully cured top coating with spar varnish will do no harm. Apply it how ever you want unless you care about having a perfect looking finish. While probably not much of an issue, the varnish will protect the epoxy from UV light which does degrade epoxy quickly.
I haven't epoxied anything yet. Decks and caprails are all unsealed. I planning on completely using spar varnish to seal the decks. Beaver
Definitely got my ten minutes of NATS preparation in today! Got the cap-rails epoxied on, and the decks got their first coat of spar varnish. Got to love clothes pins. Two more coats of spar, and the deck will be ready. Beaver
clothepins! Why havent I thinked of that 3 day ago when I was struggling with my lack of clamp to do the same exact step! It took me 3 day to glue my caprail for lack of these! Learned a new trick today!
@Daniel: Necessity is the mother of invention. @Chase, I'm going to NATS. Hope to meet lots of people that I've met on here. Beaver
Does the spray varnish work well enough? I was thinking of using it, but I was worried it would not get good coverage.
I know, I'm hoping to go too this year. I have something I'm scratch building right now to bring. I just have to keep doing my 10 minutes a day and hopefully I will get it done by spring thaw. There will be lots of cool people there too meet. Chase
