    Hi,
I was wondering what you guys thought of the Suffren for a first ship?
I was planning on scratch building it.
I'm pretty good with power tools.
    Thanks in advance.

Nice Cruiser. It has lots of room, good weight and is very manueverable. Twin stern guns and a full pump make for a very forgiving first ship. It is also French so it can battle on either side of a battle, or both.

There are several out there so I would try and see one of them, or some other 3 Unit cruiser for tips on how to make a reliable first ship. Reliability is the key to success. That, and the KISS Principle. Find somoeone in your area and inspect their ships insides. Copy the good ones.

So you think it would make a nice starter ship?
I was also thinking maybe New Orleans class cruiser.

Really, almost any of the 3-unit cruisers are good starter ships, for the reasons hobbydad outlined. Our local group is working on a Suffren right now to use as a loaner boat for new guys, if that gives you an idea of how suitable we think it is :) There are also experienced people running them, which is testimony to its qualities in battle.

Love mine... Great ship. Some say you should trim some height off the top. Folks here will be able to help you out on that better than I.

That's a very tight turn!! Are you only powering one prop? Did you scratch build it or fiberglass?

    Thanks for the video!

Colbert has power on the center screw only, It's direct drive with what I believe is a 1" robesch or graupner screw.. It is a Battlers Connection hull. Honestly the only downside I can find to this ship is the relatively high freeboard.
