So I dont have a printer and am in desperate need of SS for a VV. 144th scale combat. Can anyone help me?
So far, I've spent 12 hours re-working the various design files that @GregMcFadden provided into separate 3d printable parts. Here's what I have done :
That conversion is an effort that I wanted to get done a few years back. I really should put a little effort into the ship to at least get it back into a runner.
@GregMcFadden did a fantastic job creating these CAD models. I have had to sacrifice some detail and simplify some parts but, I think they will look good on the water.
It took about 3 more hours to break the Bridge tower into a stack of 10 parts. Next up is the Aft Tower.
@Nomercy , Are you using one of @GregMcFadden laser cut hulls? I'm wondering how the barbettes should be affixed. I was thinking of adding a flange under the deck that either gets glued or screwed in from underneath. Will that work and how thick is the deck material?
Could I get a pic or two of what you've got? And a few key dimensions: Overall length, Max beam, Barbette OD, Distance between the 2nd and 3rd barbettes. Do you need main turrets and or secondaries?
25 hours in and I've got it broken up into pieces that would fit on a 220 x 220 mm print bed but, now I'm finding wall thickness and features that are small enough that they are ignored by the slicer. The bottom of the aft tower was pretty easy once I realized that I could save time by printing it upside down but, the top section of the aft tower took several hours of rework I've basically used up the amount of time that I'd estimated as being worthwhile for this project and I am wondering if there is enough interest to crowd source this and continue? PS. Here's what I have so far :
Need all turretts, secondary and funnels. I can make the main tower if necessary. Barbette OD is 3.25
Littorio? Have you considered removing your shoes and dropping a hammer on your toes repeatedly instead?
I like this but would it be possible to split the center superstructure between the two funnels. Print them as two separate sections for reconnection after printing. It would fit a standard ender 3 bed better. I would be interested.
It's a little bit too big to break into just 2 pieces and have them fit on an Ender 3. You can't really tell from the pictures that I'd included before but, I've broken the first level up into 3 pieces and then split the second level into 4 sections. Here's a render with the second layer set off to port a bit and pushed apart. This shows how I broke it down :
So, yeah, I looked, and I think I remember printing the funnels for someone once upon a time, or was it a turret, but I'm not finding a lot on my computer. She hasn't been on my priority list for some reason. Good luck, and who knows, perhaps that someone has the files handy.
You will want to check the thickness on the railings. They are too thin as-is to slice & print reliably at least with a .4mm nozzle. @Commodore, I think that those files were on on the older N-2 computer that got migrated out. The last versions we tried to print didn't make it home with me as mine don't have the work we put in on fixing the forward tower.
