Was doing some research..I think the turrets on the kronshtadt may be identical to the lutzow...the lutzow was sold to the Russians. Just from looking at some photos, the design looks the same...anyone got specs for the lutzow turrets to compare??

Nice looking hull so far. :)

Intersting that such a large ship had a flat deck. Did the Russians design it for staying in coastal type waters instead of open oceans?

The Lutzow sold to the Russians was a Prinz Eugen class heavy cruiser with two operational turrets installed (out of 4) with twin 8" guns. Not what is shown on your plan set, which appears to be similar to the triple 11" guns installed in the pocket battleships and Scharnhorst class. Planset turret is similar in faceting but wider than the 11", probably because the Russians had fantasies about installing 12" or larger guns which they couldn't produce at the time and were basing their designs off of German equipment. You may need to build a mold for the turret if you want to follow the plan set.

The Kronshtadt Class was designed to be "superior to the Scharnhorst-class ships and able to outrun the Bismarck-class battleships" so I assume they were meant for ocean based operations...

It wouldn't have had good seakeeping characterisitics then with a flat bow. That is the main reason the Sharnhorsts were refitted with the new bow. I'd bet this ship would have been refitted with an Atlantic bow as well.

Very interesting design and build. Can hardly wait to see it at a Treaty event this coming year. :)

I'm not sure if it is the pictures or if someone cut a little extra off, but the plans do show a deck that curves up at the bow.

The stern is flat. The bow is not attached yet as we were running out of time at the build.
The last 12 inches or so still needs to be attached, and is having relief cuts installed.

A very interesting ship indeed. I look forward to seeing it out on the water.
Now we just need to build the big Russian.
I have enjoyed working with the wood again.
Thanks to all that are helping out.

Is that a contractor working on your ship? He doesn't look Froggish!

    Boat is looking suh-WEET.

Funny side note, your worktable on the wall there looks identical to the wall tables in my shop. And there's boats everywhere! Reminds me of home!
