Thanks for the picture updates Mikey! If you want to add captions, you should be able to edit the message, then scroll down past the picture and add text.
When are you going to take the plunge and cut into the Alaska?

I do at time post captions with the build photos.
But I generally like to just post the build photos in this area, to see who all is paying attention.
I kinda like it when folks either ask questions about a particular boat, or point out something
    that they noticed.
Our Denmark Straits event is next weekend. So we have all been concentrating on our ships
for that event as of late.
But after next weekend, it is back to work on all of my other projects.

    Nikki
Phill has been doing a great job on the Prinz Eugen.
That boat is going to look great out there this time around.

If Maker Faire wasn't the same weekend, we'd be back there to join you, as the rest of my family will be at the Dayton Hamvention and we'd go there as well. Hope everything goes well for you at the event!

Mikey, on that french boat a few posts ago, do the painted barrels vs non-painted barrels indicate armed vs un-armed barrels?

I think that is most cases one can determine the armed barrels.
But I am not sure that Phill has installed all of the cannons in her yet.

Can I get a closer look at the lattice work on the superstructure? How is the catupult made? Ilike the way it is done. BEAUTIFUL work on the fleet. I thought I had a busy shipyard. Glad I am not alone.

For the catapult, go to (or call) your local hobby shop that specializes in Models or Railroads and see if they carry Plastruct products. If they have the big rotating floor display, and the "tube/strip display" you can get the following:
EDIT: Actually i think the square Tube 5 pack is on the same big display as the truss, it is the singles that are in the smaller display

I used the scrap from the catapult and some larger two-flange truss on the spotlight platforms. The ladders are N scale styrene (same display as the trusses). The splinter shields are .020" x .156" Evergreen strip styrene

Looks very pretty. Just be prepaired for the parts to fly off when bbs hit it. While I always get a laugh when parts fly off ships some guys Love the pretty parts too much.

The catapult is sturdy enough, I'm not too worried about losing it. Even if I do have it shot off, it took 5-10 minutes to make. The trusses for the spotlight platforms will break if hit, but since they are attached top and bottom, they should remain in relative place. Also, I have a plan for battle time for the intricate stuff...
...and it gives the opposing captains something to shoot at above the waterline.

Alas, I come from a modeling background, not RC, so I have a compulsion to do stuff like this. It is no where near to the prototype's trusses in actual layout or pattern or size, but from 15 feet it will look right enough. It actually took me longer to do the splinter shields than the trusses

I'm a big fan of people putting details on, so long as they understand that the details will get shot at / off and mangled. Its really cool to see battle damage after a sortie beyond the usual dents and holes, and its even more fun to watch parts get blasted off.
