Make up your mind nick I will give it to nick because he is very close It is the v106, look closely where the high bow drops to the deck.
Are you sure? It looks like it only has a single center-mounted torpedo launcher up front in the picture. Hard to make out though.
the hull tells all where I got the foto from they said it ws a v106 but they wasnt sure, it was some history forum
Moving along then. This warship completed the longest duration sea voyage in WW1, spending over a year at sea without making harbor until returning home.
I love the adventures of those WWI raiders. Over 450 days at sea for SMS Wolf, all the while annoying those snooty Brits. Next question... Name this ship:
Correct...this is USS Shaw after Pearl Harbor with a temporary wooden bow fitted. The Shaw sailed back to California this way where the entire front end of the ship was rebuilt. You're up, Anachronus.
Rather than answering again so soon, I'll simply add bonus points to this question for whoever figures out what clever technique was used to resolve the situation that required the photographed ship's intervention.
You guys, I'd answer it but didn't I write an article on it a while back? Seems almost unfair to answer.
USS Milwaukee, stranded while trying to help a grounded submarine. Is that the object lesson? Never help a sub in distress?
Correct, but I read the object lesson as don't use a cruiser in dangerous waters to rescue a sub that could (and was) saved by a cheaper method. The navy thought the salvage bids were too high so they sent in the Milwaukee to try and tow it off. Stranded the cruiser and the navy still had to pay to salvage the sub. A false economy for sure.
