Ok, got a real stumper for ya'll today. During World War II, the USN had two warships in service at the same time who were named in honor of the same person. However, during World War I the Royal Navy had four ships in service at the same time, all named for the same person.. And none of the ships shared the same name. Name the two people and six ships involved. As a little help, the US ships were both of the same type of vessel, and the British ships were also all the same type of vessel. (The US and British ships were not necessarily the same type, however.) Beaver
That's what I hoped to achieve. I'll give you a hint. The one US ship's nickname is a famous clock. Beaver
Okay I will try so I can keep you busy and I know how active you are Beaver. King Edward VII and Hill Valley
Ok, I got some names here, but no explanation as to what they are. Tell me what I'm looking at, and you might be asking the next question. Beaver
haha I had two posts. One with the names of the person and the one above with the ships, but that was just on the british side. American I just had the famous clock.
There is only one right British name, not two, unless the other name is the US one. One of those two is the right British name. Now none of the ships you listed are the right ones. I'm looking for four ships named in honor of one of the people you listed. Keep working, you're getting close. Beaver
So, obviously the Brit is King Edward VII. Ships during WW1 named for him - SS Duke of Cornwall, HMS Prince of Wales (1902 PDN), HMS King Edward VII (PDN), and technically, "HMS Monarch" (PDN). "Emperor of India" (DN) wouldn't count b/c by the time it was built, KE7 had died & was succeeded by George5, who the ship would then be titled for. The American clock I have no friggin clue
You got that one, Jeff. It seems that I made a little slip in my research. I didn't realize that Edward had died before Emperor of India was named, which would make KGV the Emperor of India. My mistake. Anachronus, that is one. It's actually Franklin. What's the other one, and who are they named in honor of? If two of you answer this, I don't know who should go next.
Well, you just made the other part too easy: Ben Franklin - USS Benjamin Franklin (CV) and Bon homme Richard (CV)
