The SMS Goeben was the last surviving capital ship of the Kaiser's navy when (as the Turk Yavuz) she was scrapped in the 1970's. Of all the Kaiser's navy, she had the single greatest impact on the course of history. What did she do?
She bombarded Sevestapol, which used to be part of Russia(technically it is again), on October 29, 1914, thus bringing the Ottoman Empire into the Central Powers.
Bingo! Her presence brought the Ottoman Empire into WW1 on the side of Germany. Which led to Gallipoli, TE Lawrence, and so much more....
Thats a huge simplification. Really quite the series of events to even get in that position. Id argue that her sailing through the Dardanelles was the more significant single event.
This ship resides on a river named after a Queen of England, fought in more than one war and has recently starred in a commercial. Who is she?
Here is something to keep you busy till Bob has a question. This ship was the cause of one of the greatest revolutions in naval history. She missed one of largest battles between these types of ships. Who was she, and why did she miss the battle?
I'm better at answers than at questions. Here's a two part, since I skipped one. Only BB to sink a sub. Only BB to hit another BB with a torpedo.
