this one really isn't that hard but here it goes anyway. :)
I lead a famous charge, I got a presidential unit citation, and I missed my birthday by 2 days.
    Who am I?

My guess would be Audie Murphy.

My first guess off the top of my head would be George Armstrong Custer.

The guy who only graduated West Point because war broke out!

He was accidently given command, and one of his first actions was to lead his small unit into combat. (Lead a charge into a confederate Calvary Division!)
This charge saved the Union forces in Gettysburg from a rear attack!

Anything that lasts longer that an hour is long for me. :) Just look through all of my older trivia questions. :)

I fought in the last full-scale clash of battleships. After that I was jumboised and used as a target ship. Then I was used as an ice-breaker.l I was then ceded to the Soviet Union and used as a target ship until I was scrapped in1960.

    Who was I...?

SMS Hessen, fits most of the criteria and was at Jutland. USS Johnson is correct the last clash of battleships was Surigao.

The last class of battleships was at Surigao, but I said "full scale" meaning lots of battleships = Jutland. :) You got it Anachronus.

Once there were hundreds of my type sailing the seas, now I'm one of two survivors.
I took part in the four great conflicts of my country in the 20th Century
I recieved commendations for my role in the third of these.
    Who am I?

No one is close yet. Though Chase has a valid point in there being more survivors of the Iowa type than there are of this type of vessel.
