The US Navy lost the greatest number of ships during peacetime at this location. Where is it?
And I'll start it off with a BIG hint. Here's a pic:

7 US Navy Clemson class class 4-pipers were lost on the Californiam coast, I think it was in 1921. I spent the first 11 years of my life living in Washington near the coast, and I did a LOT of research on Pacific coast wrecks, so this was a very easy question. But it probably wouldn't be for someone who lives elsewhere.

I'll let Captain Cook and BoomerBoy fight over the next question. Boomer was just more specific but there's no doubt Cook knew the exact location as well.

For others, the Wiki story is here: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Honda_Point_Disaster

Naw, it dont matter to me. I like to wait a bit then use my google-foo to find it.
That is a general question, open to interpretation and opinion, so any hints?

    Hints:
    It was a WW2 wreck
and most of the victims were innocent.

On another forum trivia section I saw a question about a particularly bad wreck during WW2 involving the Russians that was billed as the worst maritime disaster. That may have been it, but I'm heading out the door for some late night boat building, so I can't look it up right now. The VUs may miss the first G&M event, but not by much!

You are on the right track, but I will wait to give the answer once someone answers it exactly.
    A couple more hints..........
    - more than 9000 people died
    - and more than half of them were children.

Yes. The German Ocean liner Wilhelm Gustloff, which was sunk by a Russian sub during the last days of the war. Most of its passengers were refuges (spelling?) escaping from allied troops. More than half were children. The ship sank were quickly and less than 1000 out of the almost 10000 aboard were rescued. To this day, no other shipwreck has had such a great loss of life.
It would make a cool concoy ship for campaign battles, if plans could be found.

Someone on another forum asked to what was the sinking originally credited to, a much tougher question. This is the answer given.

I believe that the Military channel had recently done a program about the sinking of the Gustoff.

That Russian sub was very lucky to be able to get away with that kill.

The way one of the torpedoes had gotten stuck in the tube! So they could not have escaped if a Destroyer happens to be around.

If there was a show about the Gustloff, I don't know about. I learned about her throught a National Geograghic article.
Darren, you are up for the next question.
