USS West Virginia it is. Good job Jay. I was surprised too, especially as i found it in a small Ripley's Bieleve it or Not calander. Pretty funny for me anyway.

I have a 25 volume encyclopedia of WW2, it's a great source of info, for good general info anyhow.
Down to business, what was the difference between the sister ships FUSO and YAMASHIRO?

The Yamashiro had her #3 turret reversed in comparison to Fuso

I knew that all but three of the BB that were sunk at Pearl were raised and set sail again. I was surprised to learn that the WV was considered Destroyed at Pearl just like the other three BB’s! The others BB’s that were destroyed and raised at Pearl were dismantled and scrapped. Only two remain on the bottom of Pearl today. The WV was raised, repaired and fought on to the finish.

DING DING DING, that is what I was looking for. The taller pagoda didn't alter her too much for combat, but the reversing Q turrent's direction somehow improved her arcs. I'll have to make the next one a little tougher.

During one of her cruises, the USS Constitution came across a British man of war in the darkness and exchanged a series of hails, part of which follows. Who is the American commodore?

"Asking once more, the American commodore demanded an answer, to which he received, "This is His Britannic Majesty's ship Donegal, 84 guns, Sir Richard Strachan, an English commodore." as well as a command to, "Send your boat on board." __________, now devoid of all patience, exclaimed, "This is United States ship Constitution, 44 guns, __________________, an American commodore, who will be damned before he sends his boat on board of any vessel." And then to his gun crews: "Blow your matches, boys!"

Before the incident escalated further, a boat arrived from the ship and a British lieutenant relayed his Captain's apologies. The ship was in fact not Donegal but was HMS Maidstone, a 32-gun frigate."

Constitution departed Boston on 14 August and on 6 September, near the Rock of Gibraltar, encountered an unknown ship in the darkness. Constitution went to general quarters then ran alongside of her. Preble hailed the unknown ship, only to receive a hail in return. After identifying as the United States frigate Constitution, he received the same question again. Preble, losing his patience, said: "I am now going to hail you for the last time. If a proper answer is not returned, I will fire a shot into you." The stranger returned, "If you give me a shot, I'll give you a broadside." Asking once more, Preble demanded an answer, "This is His Britannic Majesty's ship Donegal, 84 guns, Sir Richard Strachan, an English commodore." The reply was, "Send your boat on board." Preble, now devoid of all patience, exclaimed, "This is United States ship Constitution, 44 guns, Edward Preble, an American commodore, who will be damned before he sends his boat on board of any vessel." And then to his gun crews: "Blow your matches, boys!" Before the incident escalated further, a boat arrived from the ship and a British lieutenant relayed his Captain's apologies. The ship was HMS MaidstoneTemplate:WP Ships HMS instances, a 32-gun frigate that Constitution had come alongside so quietly that they had delayed answering with the proper hail while readying their guns. This act began the strong allegiance between Preble and the officers under his command, known as "Preble's boys", as he had shown he was willing to defy a ship of the line.

    OK the next question.
I do believe that it is common knowledge about the invasion of the Philippines where four US destroyers engaged a Japanese Battleship task force.
But what about in the Atlantic.
There was an event where a lone Destroyer attacked a Battleship!

Name the two ships and their Country? Extra points for names of the Captains.

I don't think it's what you're looking for, but IIRC Acasta (UK) charged both Scharnhorst and Gneisenau (both Germany) in defense of Glorious.

EDIT: I was mistaken, there were two british Destoyers, Ardent and Acasta.

The HMS Glowworm took on the Hipper at some point, in the North Sea, but the Hipper was really only a heavy cruiser...

I was also thinking Acasta, but you're right: there were two of them.

He asked for country, so I'm assuming that it's probably not going to be as easy as UK/Germany. I'd probably look around in the Med, and see if any Brit DD's engaged the Italians.

Regardless, I will be learning something new for sure in this question...as well as testing my google-fu

Are you thinking of the German pre-dreadnought Pommern being torpedoed and sunk by the British destroyer Faulknor at the Battle of Jutland?
