the gunboat "soemba" had 1 of her 3 5.9 inchguns wear out, a request was placed for a replacement 5.9 however the british had none available.
the request was placed and went to the "despair" section (emergency repair) the request was then passed up the line as no guns where available.

what was the name and rank of the british officer that made sure the soemba got her gun stating the ship HAD to be at the normandy landings.

    Mike

i kinda ment battleship or battlecruiser .. furious was not a frontline unit in 1944/45 as she was already showing major signs of wear and tear

Well both Warspite and Malaya would qualify, as would Vanguard and Iron Duke. I don't think either of those four are what you're looking for either!

So I guess I'll go with HMS Rodney which would also count in the showing major signs of wear department as well!

Malaya was in reserve in 1944.
Warspite was either in maintenance or under repair
Iron Duke was not a frontline unit but a training ship/decoy
Vanguard was not finished till after the war

the ship i'm looking for is the battlecruiser HMS Renown, she was a member of the eastern fleet and took part in actions around the indian ocean but was never assigned to Task force 57.
all kgv class still afloat at 1 time where part of tf 57, as where most of the aircraftcarriers.
Malaya and warspite where part of the eastern fleet but withdrawn and replaced by R class battleships.

next time i will make the question more clear..

Well, I think someone needs to step and yell 'NEXT', so I will...'NEXT'. Krijn, you may as well ask another.
    By the way, Capt(N) Nicholl.

ok here we go .. an easy one

wich american cruiser ran aground and was send away for repairs before joining the ABDA fleet
this same cruiser was later active around guadalcanal and nearly blown up when her magazines where set on fire.

now thats as easy as i can make it
