Sorry guys, I have been very busy with work and with renos that I haven't had a chance to get a good question. If some one else has one fire away and I will make sure I am better prepared for next time.

    Alright, I have one now.
To who was the first Victoria Cross awarded in WW2 and what were the circumstances?

Lieutenant-Commander Gerard Broadmead Roope was the first recipient of World War 2.

He drowned after commanding HMS Glowworm, which sank the far larger Admiral Hipper, by ramming her whilst ablaze.

The unusual thing about the award was that the recommendation for it came from the enemy - the Captain of the Admiral Hipper, Kapitän zur See Heye, wrote to the Red Cross praising the courage and gallantry of Lt-Commander Roope, and his recommendation was passed to the British authorities

Correct, except the part about the Hipper sinking.
    Your up,

Given that today is Armistice Day, I will pose a WW1 question:

When was the official end of WW1?

Much later than 28 June 1919.

So much later that 2 weeks ago is closer.

What did the very first Allied bomb dropped on Berlin hit and kill during WW2?

Why won't the British Royal Navy use snake's names for their warships?

    They won't?
I can think of HMS Cobra, HMS Viper, and HMS Python... as well as over 10 different HMS Snake's and 7 different HMS Serpent's.

Strangely enough, you answered the question.

The ships you mentioned all came to grief, and since then, the RN won't use snake names.

Uh oh, I'm not very good at asking questions... especially since I'm not sure what has already been asked!

But I'll give it a try...

What is traditionally hung from the mast of a ship to signal that is has run aground?
