Both prop shafts cut, how far(length) should I cut? I know from other threads that you want to try to get them as level as possible.
Cut them far enough to get the shafts as level as possible as you said. They look long enough to me. You need to stick them in the gear boxes and then check prop position to see if you cut enough.
I'm not sure what is going on with your post there. The admin side tells me you attached a file, but its not associated with the post
The drive shaft on mine is 12" long. The stuffing tubes are a little shorter, enought for the prop and gear on each end. I try to make all ships with 12" shafts, then if needed I can swap prop shafts. Since the props are soldered on.
A prop & gear on EACH END? Prop AND gear? So...does the motor connect in the middle & you have push-me/pull-you drive?
I just measured the shafts with the props and they are 10 1/2" long. Will start to look at the gear boxes.
I have a question, Is the allowable rudder area given in the rules greater than the BC Des Moines rudder? BC would have to tell me its size.
Jrbruder I'm not sure about that, someone with alot more knowledge will let us know. Here is a picture of the prop shafts inside the gear boxes. I have some shaping to the bottom of the gear boxes too get the shafts level.
Make sure you put your motors on the gearboxes before mounting them permanently otherwise you may have them too close together.
Everything is looking good so far. To help show how I did it, which looks much like yours I thought that I would save a 1000 words. This set up was copiedfrom several others ships. Hope this helps.
Thanks jrbruder, I'll be looking at those throughout my build. Here's the gearboxes with motors installed after grinding down the boxes. Will check the shafts this morning to see if it helped level them.
Yep, that looks like what I did to get them to set level before I epoxied them in. Keep up the good work. I think I have a couple more photos I can thow on here in case they might help. If you want, I can add some photos of two really nice DMs. One from Rick King and the other from Dana Graham. They are so nice I would hide my ship if they had theirs on the water. r/John
WOW!!! Those ships are AWESOME! I've got a long way to go. I hooked up the gear boxes to the prop shafts and I need to do some more grinding. Will post pic today. Right now working on the drag disc's.
They do have very nice ships. Mine is more a combat model with ABS super structure and definitely NOT pretty. Keep up the good work. Hope these motivate you to keep on going. r/John
