Got alittle more work done on the Des Moines. I was able to get an extra set of plans and cut out the top view and lay it on the deck. I'm going to use to place all the turret locations. Then double check to make sure they are right. I also cut down the rudder sleeve and post. I placed the smaller gear on the rudder shaft to see if I had ok clearance. I think its ok. Then I clamped the sub-deck to the hull to see if it was clear. It is, but not by much. The last picture is the sub-deck clamped and I measured to roughly the middle of the ship to see if its beam width was right? I do have a question; I cut down the plug by 3/8 and that has made the bow area hard to fit. Is there a safe way to flare the bow out?
Thanks Bob H. got that done on Friday, now working on the rudder box. Making it out of 1/8 ABS. Got bottom and two sides on, just need to finish it.
Got rudder box done, but think its too tall to put into ship. Might have to get a micro server and build a smaller box. Will test fit after subdeck is epoxied on.
Why not ditch the box and just waterproof the servo? Tugboat did a great tutorial on how to do this in his Edgar Quintet build thread. It starts about halfway down the page. SB-101 'Building MN Edgar Quinet' | Page 16 | R/C Warship Combat
You pump looks like it should fit. If not, just cut a hole in your deck and hide it in the superstructure. Or find a shorter motor. EDIT: You might want to make sure you didn't put your motors where you guns will have to sit. One of the first things you should do on a boat is mark the turret locations so you don't put anything where the guns will have to sit. Otherwise you'll have to move the offending object and it is generally easier to move stuff around when it isn't glued to the boat.
Well Beaver you were right, I checked and double checked and I've got the motor mounted where the guns will be. Thought I measured that right before I mounted the motors, guess I'll need to get longer prop shafts and move the motor mounts.
I was wondering if these accumulators would work for my USS Des Moines. "Weapons/pneumatics" " Making of small accumulators:101? Its on page 3.
Also got some construction paper and traced the stern decking out, just need to cut it and sand down alittle, then epoxy in place.
