Joy. How many engines in the Mog. You do want to have 1 esc per engine.

If it is running two engines then you need 2 esc's. In think Maritime hobbies have them. If I remember correctly the ESc that craig had was a proboat

Why do you need one ESC per motor?

Joy. Craig had the NC running on 1 ESC and the speed could not be controlled. A single esc will have to handle the load for both motors. You can use 1 but make sure it is wired correctly. There is a thread under propulsion dealing with esc's

I can't think of any overriding reason to have 2 ESCs, unless the current draw of two motors exceeds the ESC's current rating. If the motors draw more amps than the ESC is rated for, the ESC will overheat and violently self-destruct. Stall current is the highest amount of amps that a given motor can draw, so if the ESC is rated for a higher amperage than the motors draw at stall, you're fine.

For example, my Spahkreuzer is powered by three cheap surplus 365-size Mabuchi motors. They draw 2 amps each at stall, for a total of 6 amps stall current. My ESC is rated for 20 amps, so I can run all three motors with one ESC. Some of the larger ships use 500-size motors, which can draw significantly more current. Some can draw 80 amps or more at stall. If I were to use my 20-amp ESC with one of those motors, and then I got mossed or mined, my ESC would overheat and violently self-destruct, possibly damaging other parts of the ship. I have heard that a bunch of people used cheap, low-current ESCs with their monster power-hog battleships at NATs several years ago, and the multitude of failures due to mis-use gave ESCs a bad reputation. That's probably the origin of this "one ESC per motor" thing. If you just follow directions and use a properly rated ESC, then you will be fine with 1 ESC.

A question wrt the rudder gears. How much swing does the gearing provide? 25, 30 45 degrees?
