    Tradition

Mast stepping is as old as sailing ships and is the moment when a ship's mast is set into a notch or step in the keel. The Greeks, Romans and Phoenicians all marked this event by placing coins in the step, under the mast. These may have been to pay for a re-masting if needed, to help Sailors lost at sea enter the mythological underworld or just for good luck. The good luck tradition has become American as well.

Coins were placed under USS Constitution's mast and today's DDGs and LHDs and (Rc)USS Boston have stepped their masts. The visible difference for Mesa Verde is that the traditional masts have changed to the AEM/S and these are landed, not "set."

Above you will see two pennies glassed in to the hull one 1943 Wheat Back for the original Commissioned date: 30 June 1943 and one 2008 for the Models Commissioned date

I'm finally on the last leg striped her down for outfitting and New coat of paint

[:(!] I lucked out the Dam Rubber sleeve at a whooping $1.00 however it leaves me down for three days while I'm waiting for the part but I ordered 2 of them and a set of brushes it is an old Girl a 395 so I guess I'm lucky to have gone this long with out it failing back when things where made better. oh well it gives me time to work on my cannons I suppose [:p]

    [:D] Thanks Buddy
The Black stuff besides being impossible to get off my fingers is TOUCH "NFOAM it is an exterior filler adhesive made by Convenience products seamed to be the perfect thing being made for wet areas. that should keep the water out from behind my water channel all though once I start cutting to fit all my stuff in there wasn’t much water channel left [)] just glassing over the middle but the bow I only put resin over it seeing as it was such a small area [^]

Hey powder did you water proof your rudder servo? And how did you secure it in place?

LOL no I don’t plan on it getting wet....[:D]

I plan on it getting soaked I’m actually working on that as we speak just took a break because to tell you the truth I’m not getting any brain storms for a secure system [|)] got any ideas ?

A few but I haven't tried any of them. I'm leaning to building a box around the rudder post and servo using the bottom of the boat as the box bottom. I was thinking of putting two ribs across the inside of the box at a hieght that the servo could rest between them and I would secure the servo to them. if you put an o-ring on the rudder shaft between the rudder post and the gear it should not leak much or not leak at all. want to test it in your ship and let me know if it works before i try it? :)
