Kevin, put a set of these in it. https://hobbyking.com/en_us/turnigy...er-cooled-brushless-motor.html?___store=en_us After Nats I was not real happy about my acceleration either in the Bismarck. I put one of these in after Nats, and ran it, removing the 3 other motors. I tried it first with a 1:1 gear ratio, with a 2.4 inch, 40 pitch prop. Just a tad overpowered of course, great acceleration. 100 ft speed 9 seconds, it leaped out of the water. Well it is over 2 horsepower, lol. Got it geared down to 2.5:1 now, with a 2.4 inch 20 pitch prop. Have not had it in the water yet, been working on weight reduction, and motor, ESC cooling system. Hopefully will try it again next Sunday. Weight for 1 motor is a little under a pound, the 3 I replaced were just slightly over, so a even trade. Should help with the turning. Oh and it fits a standard 500 series gearbox, mine mounted right up to the BC, GB500.
I've been looking at that actually for a project, I'm assuming you guys run on less then the rated 10S LiPO, if so what voltage?
I chatted to them about it, they say it runs fine down to 7.2 volts. Mine is running on 10 volts. You have to use a car ESC, all the boat type with cooling are 1/2 throttle in reverse. I think its more like 25% myself, I tried a few different ones that I have, and they all do the same. I got a Hobbywing 60 amp car type, and was able to turn it upside down, build a box around the heat-sink, and mount it to the bottom of the hull. Then I cut out a window so the heat-sink will be in the water at all times. Should keep it cool. It does sit up about 1/4 inch from the bottom, so no added drag.
Is this what you had in mind. This is Sortie 1 of Battle 1 of NATS 2018 View: https://youtu.be/FpD5jtQxldA
yes..... yes.. glorious..... would it be possible to make it even more of a dogpile, or is that as good as it gets? Also, if the Yammer is fully operational, would that have come together, or just been the NC just doing what it could? Would it be possible to reserve a few combatants whose sole purpose would be to escort/assist the MOs on the water, and then if they have any, use remaining ammo chasing down wounded ships on five at the end?
From my limited experience, I think @Kevin P. would agree here, you are asking far more than the average "teamwork" present at any RC warship battle. I've seen maybe two or three captains work together if they decide to play wingmen, beyond that it's like trying to herd cats.
I kinda figured. There are some things I miss about moving armored vehicles on a battle line 300 yards long and killing everything to fore. But I definitely don't miss the months of training it took to be able to do that in the first place. sounds like I'll just keep an eye on the MO at next year's NATs and just try to annoy the crap out of the Yammer whenever it seems to give Kevin/McSpuds an advantage.
Nobody is stopping you from trying to work together with said Iowa/etc in the fight vs the Yam. Just a friendly warning that team-wide coordination will be lacking, unless something amazing happens and the planets align while Thanos snaps his infinity-gauntlet fingers to force the Allies to work together.
What did help the allies was the in-fighting within the axis fleet. The violence can't be expressed in words View: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=b5oNwF44V5k
That's probably what I'll do--I'll try to be like that goofy floating mask in Crash Bandicoot for whomever decides to hoist the black flag and take a Yammer down.
That video of an unmolested out of control yam makes me sad, might be end of sortie so no ammo. Teamwork is possible, generally little use typing about it. Check out some videos of recent battles, watch what the top captains do, mainly when they are not engaged, then try it out, I’ll be willing to support
Alrighty, I'll follow Bob around next month and see how it works, then go over and test it out with GLAS in October.
What makes me sad is that we still had ships with ammo (yammer had 4 minutes left) hit it with belows and did not sink it. We still had another sortie !!
