I think all versions of the hobby could incorporate this type of scenarion into a final end of week contest game at a Nats or local contest. Sounds very interesting indeed.
You could just give me a card that says 'prep your boat as you normally would', and it would still be a comedy of errors
I think you should load your bb cannons wearing dishwashing guns. It ensures you will never fill them up.
Had a good build session with 3 of the A.R.C.C club members. Tom Cromwell worked on his Nagat's rotating gun and new water channel system. Gary worked on assembly of his USS Iowa superstructure. I continued work on NC's superstructure. I made a new conning tower and added the levels too it. I sheeted the exterior of the tower with thin styrene sheet. I made 2 new funnels and shaped them to match the plans. Next for them is the funnel caps and details. Overall a good session's build.
Made more progress on the control tower. Repostioned the aft radar directors and the forward director in front of the tower. I was having issues with lining everything up and after remeasuring the distances between the superstructure parts on the plans and to what I had in place , then measuring the distances from the turrets and barbettes and from the bow to the tower I realized something didn't make sense. I realized after that the Barbettes the forward ones were too far forward. I needed to move each barbette back over an inch aft to realign the correct distance from the bow and to the supestructure. I had already installed the barbettes but fortuntaly I didn't secure them permanently. I was able to press them through the openings . Then I remeasured and recut new openings. Then I made semicircular cuts out of birch ply and 1/8 in and shaped them to match the gaps that were created after the barbettes were repositioned. I then sanded flush and sealed with fiberglass matt beneath the deck. I will top cut the wood fillers with resin on Topside of deck and sand smooth and use bondo to fill and seal on top. I was able to effectively make the repair close to seamless and once finished and painted you won't see the repair unless you look beneath the deck hatch. After finishing I placed the superstructure back on and I achieved a near perfect fit and alignment. Now I can proceed with work on the superstructure. The aft barbette was out by less than 1/8 inch so I didn't bother ripping that one out. Unfortunatly the plank lines and the wood stain suffered the consequence of the repair so I will extend the camoflauge across the main deck and across the superstructure. I saw a 1/350 NC in Model Ship Gallery and with this scheme and it looked very sharp indeed. The Nagato also had it's new waterchanneling installed and first coat of resin has been applied. Mountings for 3 SLA and 2 pumps are in place. The drive motor mounts are repositioned and secured. The refit is going well for this model which was built in 2004 I think. I will post pics of the superstructure which is in need of repair to Spud's Mutsu build.
