I like TBIII because it's waterproof, not just resistant, and TBII is like a dollar per gallon cheaper. Additionally, I still have a good bit left over from building my sailboat. Manly stuff, holds up well in water.
I've done one with balsa and one with foam blocks.... if I were to do a third (which I am right now) I would do the foam block method rather than balsa.
We are making combat models, chances are the hull you are building will serve you well but you want to get on the water as quickly as you can. Using balsa or foam blocks will speed up construction , that way your water channeling is already built and the outside just needs to be sanded.
What VVaholic said is true. the 1" thick pink foam board available at home depot is great stuff. I sand mine with some sample expanded cell aluminum foam I have from work. I have not found anything better than the 10,20 and 40 ppi sample aluminum foam blocks from ERG. cuts the foam like butter. leaves surface a skosh rough but a last little sanding with 80 grit, single epoxy coat followed by a little filler if there are some leftover pock marks and a last sand before adding glass makes a good solid hull.
OK Now you got Ok .Now you got me thinking where I will have to make these adjustment if any, I see some builders have used balsa blocks or think balsa, I am thinking on planking then sand it smooth , then fiberglass over.Any builder out there been there done this that and the other thing?
I w I would like to see pictures or videos of what you are saying. Sounds like a interesting way of doing it.
All the ribs are cut out and dry fitted. Going to get some thinner plywood for the deck, And get some on that titebond 3 glue you other builder say you use. Here is a update video, And I am adding a mariner moment of minesweepers at the end of the videos,Give me some feedback if you like it.If not I will take it out of the videos.
Glue Question Home depot did not have any titebond ,But a lepage wood glue, So I did search on line and found a place near by .But they only have titebond 3 in a big 3.78 liter jug I don't need a 10 year supply .They do have the smaller titebond 2 .Is the titebond 2 going to be water proof enough ? Please give me some feedback on this, Thanks all
Try strike or BC for those parts, if you damage them more than likely someone else will have a spare. Just some "food for thought".
You're doing a great job with this build. I'm not sure if you care or not, but I thought I should mention that your bow is not quite correct. If you look closely at the bow of the ship in the long photo of the Raven in the part5 video, you will see that the deck at the extreme bow is the same level as the deck afterword. Two sailors are visible in the extreme bow, and the port/starboard sides come up to around their necks/heads, but the sides drop off immediately aft of them. So the rib plan was really deceiving here -- The sides were much higher than the deck at the extreme bow. Keep up the good work!
I have noticed what you are saying after building. The blue print ribs were to small and I cut a second set of taller ribs,Trying to blend it in, It was worse an did not post any videos of it
