Some more painting, went with measure 22 briefly Decided to shift to measure 32, blue was too dark Base of light gray This was waterline Waterline done Start of measure 22 Measure 22, ended up being for not Scaled up camo and will use as templates
Work on painting Kinda of pain to tape, prep for black Port Three quick coats Need to sand before the last coat, then painting deck
Thanks, I’m pleased with how it’s looking Went with the pattern from the guide Came out good. Will need to clean up along all edges Moving the superstructure next, probably balsa base
We probably could have just gone into production with this hull, after yesterday’s sandout, but I got a little picky. A couple spots and went through one more grind/fill/spray layer. It’s gonna be a nice little boat and super cheap!
Back to work on this Starting on superstructure Going to print the remainder, I think it will come out nicer. Getting started in fusion
More work over the past few days. Drew up next part of SS More painting, cleaning up tape lines Took a few times to get her to print, but eventually came out OK, good enough to serve as base form I’ll keep working on drawing up the next parts, surface prep and painting of SS, a few more spots to touch up on hull
More printing. Took a bit longer to draw everything up than I had hoped. Decided to print first deck too. Tan into an issue mid day with layer shifting, so I’ll need to check out the pulleys. One of the prints might be salvageable. Will need to reprint bridge Aft portion of first deck Bridge. Had to look at a lot of pictures to figure out the configuration Getting a feel for how it looks with super Paint touch up is about done on hull, only black remaining Once printer is back to 100% I’ll move to making the printed parts look non-printed, might do acetone or just paint/spackle. Will get those painted and smooth before gluing to hull and adding details
Definitely want to acetone vapor bath to bond the layers the best and smooth them for appearance. ABS correct?
I’ve been working through some printer pains, but finally moving forward. Acetone vapor worked great on a few pieces, not on the upper deck/bridge pieces that warped along the thin layer at the bottom. I think I have at least four bridges and a few mid level pieces done that I can save for the combat version. Can’t really tell but lower deck level is glued together, pretty smooth from acetone. Next two layers are untreated Painted with primer. I’ll shift to normal methods to get the outstanding portions smooth. Looks decent from about 10ft away
Wow. I actually wrote a report on the battle of Samar for the 7th grade nonfiction unit last year. Well done. Sammy
And it is lovely!!! thin gelcoat. not a single air bubble. smooth inner finish. thin layers FG as appropriate for this light weight a model. well done , sir! It will build into a nice ship.
