Chipping away on this one, will finish by Christmas. Almost have the superstructure painted, just glued the three layers together, will need to get the seams covered In the background I’ve been prepping parts from the fletcher kit for deck candy
Slowly getting there Glued SS down With staircase and other pieces (not sure of official term) Other parts aren’t glued down, planning to start in middle of ship and work towards the edges I should have paid more attention when putting camo on hull, some of transitions don’t line up with superstructure goal to finish next weekend
More work. Had a paint spill, that’s what I get for working in living area had to get printed dual 40mm because the fletcher kit only had one. Print level = god-like More deck candy coming together launch, gun tubs, guns Mast was a pain, came out alright
Yes shapeways, and yes to k guns (one of last steps) Made the last 4 machine guns with the super detailed part of the kit (pita bending tiny pieces) Also finished up mounting board plate from amazon Felt anchor chains. Not the best but close enough for the 5ft away view and K guns for Carl
Final push But the bullet on installing railings added life raft and supports need to do rigging, final railings, a couple small pieces, and depth charges, mount boat to real board
Finishing touches on the boat Rigging I need to bore out the board a bit more, it was too late tonight to Dremel so it will be a quick job tomorrow to finish things up. Here are pictures showing final state of boat The largest flaw is the mast being crooked (well until my grandfather looks at it and shows me whats wrong). I planned to fix with rigging but didn’t pan out. Looks fine from the side
Thanks Dave! Finally done, with a few hours to spare! Mounting fasteners final photo dump I love the simulated ladder chain that came with the railings. I found an appropriate location and for Carl I’m very pleased with how she came out. I certainly learned a lot about the ship and doing detail work. Can’t wait to deliver her this week!
The ship was transported and delivered successfully. It brought back a lot of memories and inspired several stories My grandfather decided to look at the boat instead of the camera
I assume the extra draft was added to allow for weight of R/C & gun systems? Has anyone built one for combat recently? I'd much rather have a go at it with the scale draft...
