I have returned!! I'm resuming work on the Washington after a "brief" foray into 40k (damn snipe for having such great pieces at his house!).

I'm gonna work on the drive train next then do the deck. Luckily I only have one deck.

Did someone say 40K? Do you need the cleansing absolution of the Emperor's immortal light? Then we shall give it to you! (in the form of holy-promethium fueled flamthrowers) :D

Im going to a baseball game for my dad's birthday on the 20th. So nothing else that day.

Quick question. I drilled the skegs, test fit the stuffing tubes, and installed the props. I was suprised that the props barely cleared the hull by a few sheets of paper. On one of the props, all the blades clear except one. Any suggestions?

Sand down the hull where that blade hits.

Ok. When I put the stuffing tubes attached to the gearboxes in, the gearboxes aren't lying flat on the hull. They are on a slight angle with the motor end touching the hull(about a 1/8" incline over the length of the gearbox). I'll post pictures when I get home. Do you guys have anything scheduled for 4/27.

So the prop shafts are tilted up as they go to the stern? See if you can prop up the gearboxes with shims until the shafts sit level.

Nothing scheduled for 4/27 that I know of, the battle at Robs is the week before and then May 9-11 is the spring regional in Hagerstown.

That should solve the touching blade problem as well.

    Picture time

    Gearboxes and shafts

    The grotescly tiny shaft clearance.

And some pics of the tape job that will lead to making the ribs actually 1/4 inch ribs, not the slightly large size in the picture.

Looks a little like a tape job of khorne to me.

That propeller clearance looks fine, you want them to be close.

Is there a better way to make the hole bigger to adjust the shaft angle besides drilling from the inside of the skeg to the outside leaving just enough to hold the shaft in place?

A round file works pretty well for enlarging the hole a little at a time till you get the correct size and alignment.

Actually, the shafts go down as they go towards the stern of the ship. Since the props are as close to the hull as possible (which im told is a good thing), Can I sand the bottom of the gearboxes so that the shafts are level?

    5-13-8
Ok, im filing down the gearboxes since they''re the problem.

I filed down the gearboxes so that the shafts are level, but now neither of the props have any blades hitting the hull. Shouldn't lowering the gearboxes raise the props? The props are within 1/16 of the hull anyway. Should the stuffing tubes be flush with the ends of the skegs when I glue the gearboxes down?

Donanton With my Kron Prinz I have not set the shaft on my Skeg for center shaft as I want to make sure I position rudders and prop to the best setup I can get. I would not set those shafts till you have them set how you want to the rudder or rudders. I keep hearing place props as close to the rudders as you can. So setting both to you fit biggest prop and closest fit to rudder as you can.

Well since the shafts aren't gonna be sticking out of the skegs, wouldn't flush with the skegs be the best place for the stuffing tubes? Wouldn't installing the stuffing tubes first make it easier to install rudders since they would be in reference to the fixed position of the props?
