IT LIVES!!! I fixed the scroll saw. I switched the gears around and now it works like the day it was made. :) Sub-deck was just cut out and I'm getting the hull to see how it fits. :)

Yeah, V-106 looks nice with a sub-deck in her. :) I'll try and get pics posted tonight. No promises though. ;)

I'm going to have to go back and re read the Othar build threads. Microboats are Tug's speciality.

The Gearing is getting closer to reality, Othar will be following. I figure I can save a bunch of weight using printed gearbox and props. Tempted to print gears, I've seen it done before :)

Hmmm I may tempt you to building a set for V-108

Here are some photos of the sub-deck.

This is the stern. Might need some FG cloth to fill up that gap. :)

Tempted to print cogs for a belt drive, quiet and easier to print satisfactorily. I will see what I can do. Props are easy. What size do the V-boat drivers want?
*I will look into specifics for gears, too. I can go to the website that draws gears to your specs, save the jpeg and draw gears from that. Might be loud, but I can make them helical 'cut' and that reduces noise. But to avoid side thrust from the helical cut, they would need to be double-helical, and I'd have to think about it. Maybe simple gears at first :)

Sounds interesting. ABS would also be lighter that steel gears, which is a good thing for a light boat. How much would a gear box cost in ABS, plus the gears/cogs to run it?

Let me draw one up. I just ordered a bunch of 3mm shaft collars which will let me print gears/pump impellers/etc for a light motor I'm using for Gearing that has a 3mm shaft. The output gears will have 1/8" collars so as to fit the more common (in our hobby) 1/8" shafting.

I'll go with functional and reliable before worrying about fancy and quiet.

I agree with Anachronus, I'd rather have something that will get me through a battle alive, than something that will leave me for the big guys. :)

Hull was on my door step when I got back into town. It's so tiny!

It would be interesting to compare with Othar, size wise.

Got the software that will let me do fancy gears with minimal effort :) They're a bit bigger than the metal ones, which is not optimal in a small ship. But I think they'll be manageable.

Gears for the drive, gears for the rudder. I'm becoming a gear head.

Good to here you got your hull, Ananchronus. :) Be sure to post pics when you start building her. Looking forward to seeing a gear or two when they're printed. I was wondering, Tugboat, would you be able to design and print a gear box that will run two shafts off of one motor?

That's the intent. Down the road, there are many things that I want to print. Just did props for Malaya last night.

Tugboat, would you be interested in making a 36 tooth gear and a 9 tooth gear to fit an 1/8" shaft for my Suffren? Also, what would be a rough estimate? If it will be cheaper than getting a whole new set of motors for Suffren, then I might consider going that route. :)

36 tooth could be a couple inches in diameter, it's not as small as a metal gear. But not hard to do.
