Its called Navy Field. Its free. and I just found out about it about a week a go. I downloaded it and tried it. once i figured out the controls I was quite hooked on it. Its really like our own game but battles are every evening. My chapter of rc naval combat doesn't do battle often so i guess ill be relying on this. [8D] The game is great by the way. you should check it out over this winter's build season.
Heh, missed my 'For those who play Navy Field' post? There are people battling at all hours, really. It's interesting, but has a learning curve. I can't do the guns manually to save my life, but the subs are just the ticket. I like my carrier, too. With a little teamwork, you can get some great results. What's your moniker in-game?
May have to check this one out. Battle stations Midway was ok, but there is a bit of non realism to it that detracts from the game.
Battle stations is a good slugfest of a game. It is one of those you just get up close and personal to other ships, but that style of fighting does not allways work out well for ya. If you want historical and real life accuracy battle stations is not for you.
Im either darren84 or darren69 on the game. ya auto range finder works good for up close and def. has an advantage there, but at long range the manual one works far better. to bad little ships don't do there job at blocking torp ships. Id be doin really good then.
by the way, I haz battlestations midway. its really not a historically accurate game. they do do the up close an personal slug fest but thats what the masses would want. Just not "fun" to them to spend hours on one sortie just to sink maybe one other ship like it would have been in reall life. What would be neat is to have one of those role playing games set in one of the ww1 or ww2 ships/senarios. every body would have there jobs from capt. to the guy who works the guns or the range finder dude. but then you probably could not get any thing started cause people would skip out the moment instant gratification was obviously not gona happen.
If you're interested in realism, I highly recommend the Distant Guns series, by Storm Eagle Studios. I have played the Russo-Japanese War, set in 1904-1905, and they are just about to release Jutland, set in 1916. I posted some screen shots on another thread. Awesome eyecandy and realism out the wazoo. You can get the free 30 day trial for the RJW from the SES website. In Navy Field during beta testing I had fun doing gun duels with the manual targeting, topped off with a well-placed volley of torpedoes if necessary. I had trouble advancing past the destroyers, and got fed up with torp whores and with CLs killing all the destroyers leaving none for me. I might be willing to give it a shot again.
They have adjusted the weapons power in navy field. torps are harder to use and bb's can go right through them now. Cl's will fall to a couple good dd's guns + torps to finish em off. Ya, I saw distant guns a long time ago. funny how they are just now finishing it. Jutland is gona be sweet
Sarge, they just want you surface guys to think that With my uber crew, I can get in two loads of torps before I run out of air, after sneaking thru your battle line first BB3 and up take more, so I just have to pick my targets carefully. Submarining is an art and no CA or below can shrug off an SS2's powah!
It is FREE as in free b33r. Download the client (for free), install, and play (for free). There are 3 servers that you can log on to from N.America, I'm always on Missouri when I'm playing. (The other two are Arizona and something else that I forgot
