    Hey guys,

Going to be re-doing the VV after the Cleveland is done. It will be on the higher end of a build with a few tricks. I would like to have her ready by next spring but will need your input on the build. The ship will be sectional but I want to try a few new things with the guns.
    Any interest?

I got all the parts for mine Lou, they all came while I was gone at Nats, I just need the time to give it a try, maybe this weekend.

I'm going to give the gear servo and sprockets a try, also I got in my glass BallBearings, and got the conduit joints from Lowes. HD is getting to be about worthless, don't even know why I bother going any more, I almost always end up going to Lowes anyways to find what I need.

I plan on just firing the 2 forward guns, with the top firing button, rear with the bottom, and the side throw will be for my new active list control. What is that you ask?

When I come along side of someone on the port or starboard side, I will move the stick over, a servo will shift (4 to 6 oz's of weight, still needs to be determined) to the side which causes her to list over, so I will have less freeboard showing, my guns will be in a sweet spot, since the list is controllable, and a stern haymaker on the opposing ship should just shoot close to parallel to the side of my hull, while the forward guns will just hit my deck.

My luck she will just roll over, LOL. [:(]

    7. Between sorties no weights may be shifted inside a hull. This is to prevent any ship from gaining an advantage by changing the effective waterline.

I would say this this covers shifting weight in your ship durring battle to gain an advantage also.
Though it would be another funny way to sink yourself.
What about the other side. If you shift weight to cover one side odds are someone will have trip stern on the other side. Trips below the waterline would be bad, or twins for that matter.

I did read that rule Bob, but you notice I said I was going to shift weight during the sortie, I was not going to shift weights between sorties that would be breaking the rules.

I'm just applying the Au's, and Finster bend the rules, don't break concept is all.

But at Nats this year someone said to me, you have to read the rules very carefully, and then interpet what you think they mean.

I'm still trying to figure out where anyone thought hinged drag disks are legal, when hinged is never mentioned in the drag disk section. And how your able to move casemates back during construction, to ensure that they are impentrable. I really like this one, if I make another ship with casemates I may have to use it.

Boy you sure do learn alot at Nats.

The shifting weight concept is nothing but a concept that could be done, but as you said, the other side would get toreup in a hurry, but interesting none the less. I have a few other plans that cannot be spoken about [}:)], but are legal.

Don and I are thinking about scratch building a couple of Iron Dukes for next year, I got those British plans at the end of Nats, and they are very nice. Now I just have to see if I really want to go through all the effort of building one, or two, or three, or not.

I don't see a rule forbidding it, but it sounds shady... 'sounds shady' and 50 cents will get you a 49 cent cup of coffee, _but_... I for one see someone calling a safety violation on you if you roll ship and a sidemount passes through the horizontal. Also, the deleterious effect on pump priming is not insignificant.

The only thing I can see that is in the rules that actually prevents the use of list control (in MWC rules; it's outright banned in some clubs) is that you cannot have a rudder feature that exerts control in the vertical plane, and if you roll ship, a normally-horizontal rudder would be exerting control in the vertical plane.

Also, if you're rolled to one side, get bumped and capsize, can you call ram? Or is it an unseaworthy sink?

Tug I was thinking like around 10 to 15 deg or so, lol. What your saying is more like 30 deg or more. I agree its legal, but very shady. But we will have to see if anyone tries to use it. Me, Me, me.

Ships themselves could shift from side to side using their bilge tanks, and battle damage counter flooding, so its really not that far fetched of a idea.

Yes, but they didn't flood down one side to dodge hits... because counterflooding was something you only did if your ship was already listing due to battle damage. Build it if you like, I'm just saying it doesn't seem... sportsmanlike. I know that the kill-or-be-killed types in the club will laugh at me for worrying about sportsmanship, but so be it.

David all "I can say is watch for those who may try and team play you. One may lure you to list to one side and a faster ship swoops in for the now exposed below area. A few good hits like that can really add up and just think about all the water you will take on from close to water line aboves every time you roll a side towards the water. you are effectively adding to you water intake.

Lou I got a few ideas I am my Koing Class for rotates, but I feel they are all tried and true ideas that others have used so far.

You might be right if the rule only said that you could not shift weights between sorties. However, it goes further and states intent.
I don't see how your system could be OK given the intent.

    Here is the rule.

    7. Between sorties no weights may be shifted inside a hull. This is to prevent any ship from gaining an advantage by changing the effective waterline.

No where does it say I cannot shift weights during the sortie, only between. Please quote me the rule section where you say it shows intent, because I could be wrong.

These rules are half personnel interpertations, on what you and I think the rules say. If you read the posts, some say yes, and some say no, so who is right. It would be better if the rules just said no weight shifting is allowed at any time, but the rules are very specific to the time, between sorties. So I'm applying my interpertation at this time, which may be right or may be wrong, but who's to say.

Seams to state intent pretty clear.

I suspect the CD at a sanctioned event will have some say.

I think you should go for it... in an Allied ship.

BTW, exactly what rules are Au and Finster bending?

Well I did not think you would post the rule since it does not say you cannot do it, only your interpetation of what you think the rule says. I never get a rule quote back from anyone, just what they think a rules says.

Just a couple of examples, yet when I find a hole in a rule, someone gives their interpetation of what they think it means, but can never back it up by quoting a clear and concise rule.

I guess I just need to take the say nothing, showup, and you will never know about it approach, as others do.

Out of curiosity, have you run it by Rick or Don to see what they think?

Yes I have, they think the same as you, legal but very fishey.

I have no plans on using it myself of course, just showing somthing that needs to be fixed in the rules next year, because someone will use it if given the chance.

I get your drift and by the way yamatoman, I do plan on going Allied next year. [:D]
