Wait wait... what's this about wanting to be paid to mirror their site? First I've heard about it.

Assholes. Well, in that case, I shall word this to avoid any... Imperial entanglements. I (with the assistance of friends) have in my private repository, the plans from the French archive which I shall not mirror. Should anyone request a given file, I will be happy to share it.

Simply list the files but don't link them.

    not mine

    but..

http://3dhistory.de/wordpress/?page_id=986 Check the various pages under the 'Drawings' Menu.. I somehow doubt they paid the french :)

Personally I suspect that these drawings are public domain and mirroring them is a nonissue, but I am no lawyer and I cant find a definitive statement from the french about the copyright status (nor do I know to what extent US law would respect a copyright by the French on them)

As a general rule government documents are considered to be in the public domain. There may be some EU regulations that I am not familiar with though.

Hmm. The 3dhistory.de website says these plans were placed in the public domain.

BTW, some of the plan sets on this website have more sheets in them than when I originally downloaded them from the French Archives (which was before they were hacked the first time). I'm guessing more sheets were slowly added to the archive over time. So I've downloaded the ones from 3dhistory.de that had more sheets than my original download.

If its been a while since you downloaded plans from the French archive, maybe you should check out the plan sets at the 3dhistory.de site and see if you are missing some pages...

Okay, I'm going to go with the 'public domain' notice. I talked to lawyer-wife, who says that they would have to issue me a letter requesting that I take the plans down (from warships1), and I would then have to blow them off, before I could get sued, etc. So worst case, they are annoyed and make me take it down. And that's if the notice on 3dhistory.de is incorrect. I'm okay with those odds. I have a battle this morning, and then I will work on getting the permissions sorted on the google drive and on the site and figuring out why the address no pointy at something useful.

Since they come from France you really need not worry about hostile action.

So what's going on with warships1.org? I still can't see it:

www.warships1.org points to the site "index.html" which does not exist. Please contact the domain administrator.
