If you want to stay with SLA batteries I think eagle picher or someone makes some nice 6V 5ah cells that are pretty small, not sure on the weight but I cant imagine it not being lighter.

But since it sounds like you want to run NiMh a 6V 10Ah pack would work pretty well for you. I think that would save you somewhere close to a pound and give you more juice. If you want to save more weight you could always go for smaller cells but I dont know what the weights for those would be like.

I thought that the NIMH batteries were the most expensive. Are you sure you want to go that direction Monk. ive also heard alot of good things about SLAs.

I think most of the NiHM packs that guys run are 7.2 volts, which if you run your RX off your main battery would probably make it let out the magic smoke. I'm not sure where guys get them, but you could probably google the batteries and do some price comparisons, then post what you find and see if anyone has had bad experiences with that brand of battery.

I'm interested myself as I am looking at putting NiHMs into my Salt Lake City and my Belleau Wood. if I like them, I just might look at replacing the SLAs in my battlecruisers with NiHMs as well.

Powder, I make all my battery packs out of walmart nimhs soldered together. If anything I recommend looking for larger amph ratings, the bigger the number, the longer it lasts. Scotchcote for water protection.

Capacity is very low, go for a sub C, or C, thats 4000 mAh or more.

Are you looking for packs, or single cells, that you are putting together?

Whats wrong with a 6V 10ah pack? Those seem pretty popular. How much weight are you looking to drop? You shouldn't need 10ah for a cruiser, closer to 5. Building your own packs is fairly easy but I'd still reccomend buying them depending on how good at soldering you are. 7.2V packs are easy to get since thats what a lot of model car guys use. If you want better weight/balance maybe go with running two ~3000ah packs at the same time so you can put them where you want/need the weight.
