BLUE! WITH RED TURRET TOPS! Anyone who says otherwise shall have his tires slashed and children tarred and feathered! Just kidding - i know quite a few of those who argue about that stuff. However i do believe that was the final agreement. I find it hard to believe however, such an odd configuration that nobody could remember? O well, i'm not going to get my panties in a bunch over it...
Going back to the original question. I'd say it is the comraderie as well! There are many things that you can say is value. For one, I would say over the past 8-10 yrs in this hobby, I've seen our club grow from 2 like minded individuals into something I hope will continue for a very long time. I've battled in the U.S. twice so far, and do not have 1 single negative experience. The guys and ladies are great, and the seasoned veteran captains are worth their weight in gold. There will always be politics, but so long as everyone understands why they are in this hobby,(friendship, battling, respect, courtesy, etc.. add reason here) the better it will be. If only I had more ships I could shoot at... Work and Family have higher commitment and that keeps me away from the pond, and this great hobby. The biggest "hook" for me is all the support from guys I have yet to meet, including many on this list. I agree with Boatmeister.. Well said! I hope many of you will venture North of the Border, and battle with us.. talk soon, Mark OAF
I have to say that for me, it is the fun of combat and the fun of playing with and making new stuff (some of you have seen some of it, oh the ideas that I don't have time for) or more inexpensive stuff. I can say that some of the politics is annoying at best. Which is where this site is a godsend. Since everything is here, run by someone who has an interest in everything, we don't get the crap that I have seen over the years on just about every list I have been on (other than the big gun list) where someone wants to do something different and is basically told not to discuss it on the list (or to bugger off, which is the less polite and more common way), because they are "sniping" members for a different format, etc. etc.. When I see that stuff I am disinclined to help or care about that group anymore, and my motivation for R&D declines proportionately. We also seem to see less of the more ill natured head butting here than what I see occasionally on email lists, which is also good. the other thing that will probably keep me in the R&D world this summer is gas costs. It costs me ~100$ gas to go to each battle, which adds up really fast, especially with a new house. But that is probably good news to Justin... as he probably still wants a set of cannons
