George (The Plans Master) Goff has the correct Stern (your Penciled one ) also depending on the ship Earlier Versions CA 68 to CA71 had two cranes on the fan tail the Pittsburgh introduced the single air craft handling crane forcing the single twin mount 40mm into two twin mounts on either side stern
Hey monk, any news on the Boston? And i agree with John, when i eventually get around to buying plans, buying more then 1 set and cross-referncing with photos is a very good idea.
unless some one has already done that for you [] well I,m off to Dons house in 30 min for her first scrap I'm skirmishing Don Fishers USS Massachusetts LOL will get my But kicked but will learn a bit before I face the torrent of NATS will let you know tonight how she did []
Hi, There is nothing worse than starting a ship and finding an old photo showing it to be far different than the plan you are using. When it comes to plans they are only as good as the information available at the time they were "redrawn" Rather than buying several cheap sets of plans and try to guess which is more correct, one good, real set is the best way to go if they are available. Marylandsilver.com has some Baltimore plans copied from the National Archives. 67 feet of plans for a little over 100 bucks. The floating drydock may also have some. When it comes to quality plans it is money well spent. Quality plans save a lot of time when scratch building. RiverRaider
That still doesn't look right to me. Too much inward taper at the sides, starting near the aft-ends of the catapults, with the transom too narrow. Aft-most 40mm mounts are wrong, too. So, to navigate to the images, go to the main page, select "Cruisers", then scroll down into the "Light and Heavy Cruisers" section. Find the ship you're interested in, click on it, & you'll get a page of thumbnails with descriptions. Hints: The last subdirectory (between the last pair of '/') is the hull number. So, ../068/.. would be BALTIMORE, ../069/.. would be BOSTON, etc. Roll your mouse over each image without clicking; the file name should show up in your status line, at the bottom of the browser. If it matches the file name (last thing after the last '/', i.e. '0406811.jpg' for that 1st BALTIMORE photo, etc.) then it's one that I've listed. Or, just have fun & explore on your own! **** There are plenty more, & that doesn't even touch what's in history.navy.mil, but I think it points out the issues. Here's how mine came out: JM
I don't know what the heck is up with that. Something goofy on the navsource pages, I guess. I copied those links right from the images. Delete out the file name, back to the last '/' character, then hit Return. You'll get a list of files. Click on the file you want (keep at least 2 windows open, so you can see which files you want). Alternative: Go to http://www.navsource.org & navigate from their home page. JM
Yes, navsource doesn't allow image hotlinking .... so many people do it from their site that their servers nearly crash, so they disabled it.
I dont know what it is with my computer, but i can never seem to get on to navsource, is it a really good site?
Only if you'd like to see lots of photos of just about any warship you can think of. http://www.navsource.org/ JM
Anyone know anything about these plan sets? Any good? http://www.bestshipmodels.com/index.php?main_page=product_info&products_id=52
Unless it has hull lines it is just a nice thing to hang on the wall. If you're going to build a wood hull you need the hull lines. This page did not show the hull lines. It says it has two pages but only shows 1 photo. I'd guess the other page is a top veiw. Ask if it has hull line, if not take a pass. If you really want an NC get a hull from Battler's Connection.
