With the 100 year anniversary of WW1 coming up rapidly, I thought it would be interesting to "live" through the war. I was hoping to find a timeline or calendar or something that would give me interesting events on today, 100 years ago during the war. I can then share the basic events (declaration of war, start of a battle, famous British author enlists, future German leader is gassed) with my shipmates daily. It would also be nice if it had more info about each event in case I'm curious.

So far, I've found this app, but I don't have an Ipad nor do I intend to get one.

The only thing I can think of off hand is: www.nationalguard.mil there is a part, "Today in Guard History"
The only WW1 dates for March I saw was 9 March 1916 and 31 March 1918.
They try to list an even that the Guard was part of for each day of the month.
    Some very interesting reading.

For the War of 1812, the US Naval Academy, or perhaps the Historical Center, had a day by day break down of the events of the war. Have you checked the Imperial War Museum?

Or, on the other hand, one could watch what's happening in Russia in 2014, and wonder if we've learned much in a hundred years :)

I think the people in Washington have been taking lessons from that noted diplomat, Neville Chamberlain

Here is a chronology of the operations of German U-boats, and what they sank during WWI. Gives the month, day, and year, so it's easy to use. :)
